Hi, I know you've been busy so no pressure to answer or publish this ask. I was wondering if any spoonies would be able to talk to me and maybe give advice when it comes to maintaining friendships? I have chronic fatigue and might have to leave college (UK) and I already feel isolated as it is. I wanted to ask if anyone would be willing to share their experiences with similar issues. Hope this message makes sense and that you're having a good day 😊
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to answer. I have had a hard time maintaining friendships because of health issues and have lost friends to it. Ultimately your health comes first, but there are ways to keep up your friendships even while sick. One of the biggest things I do is to always make the best effort I can. The hardest part is finding the energy to see your friends. If I’m too sick to go out, ask them to come over and watch movies. If you’re too sick for that even skype. Technology is a godsend now because you can see and hang out with your friends without leaving your bed. I also try to explain to them and be open about my health. If I can’t hang out because I don’t have the spoons, I be honest with them and tell them. Reminding them that you are just as bummed out as them helps too. Sometimes though you just have to sacrifice the spoons and hang out. It usually lands me in bed for a few days but it’s worth it to see my friends in my opinion.
Anyone else have tips for how to maintain friendships while ill?
