A Punzbur dynamic is interesting.

Mercenary meets future President of a Nation.

Perhaps it would be Wilbur's influential motto of "stick it to the man" that has a hand in changing Punz's mindset and had him rallying the whole of the server and leading them to the Nether Portal that would take them directly into the heart of the hideout?

Perhaps there was a plan, mapped out between Dream, Punz, and Wilbur. A plan that would get derailed by the arrival of Philza and the resulting death of Wilbur.

I think about Ghostbur and Punz's interaction during the Egg arc. How Ghostbur was able to go up to Punz and Punz never raised a sword or threatened him.

I think about the angst. It was Punz that took his two lives and put him on his last life.

Their relationship would be brief and would end/sour when Punz's killed Wilbur in the Final Control room the first time and then again under Schlatt (ahem Quackity's) orders during the elections.

[DSMP fic] Three things that never come back: Chapter 1, The spent arrow (Wilbur and Punz)

Wilbur, Punz, and Dream, and their orbits around each other.

Punz was directly responsible for two out of three of Wilbur’s canon deaths. Wilbur is well aware that it’s not really the name on the death message that matters. There are larger forces at play, always have been. Taking a chat log as the full story would be like… trying to read someone’s life story from a list of all the foods they ate. You’d get something useful out of it, but you’d miss the real point.

But Punz was the one to kill Wilbur. Twice. First, in the final control room, with a sword. The second time, as he was being chased from L’Manberg, skewering his back with an arrow. It was a strong shot. Broke a rib. You don’t forget that. 

On one hand, Wilbur has about the same feelings he has about Punz as he does about the rest of Dream’s posse. A small army, strong and amoral but for their loyalty to their commander and the status quo. 

On the other hand, Punz was – a mercenary, was that right? His loyalty was bought, but Punz was selling, and Dream always bought. And Punz wasn’t one of the inseparable trio. He had his own spacious land, his mighty tower. He was a surprisingly good builder. Travelled to a lot of places. During a war, though, he’d always be there. Always on the other side.
