Ghost in the Morgue
As far as the stories went, there was a ghost named Koji living in the morgue of the hospital.
One of the green surgeons had managed to kill a patient during what was commonly considered an easy surgery. What made the matter worse, was that Mikoto had felt generous (or maybe it had been a moment of stupidity?) where he had let the younger surgeon take over a patient that was originally his. And now the poor soul was dead and the surgeon scared of Mikoto’s wrath, he hadn’t let the other feel thus far.
It wasn’t really like him, but some tiny part of him had actually felt responsible for the death of the patient. At least, he wanted to say goodbye.
Down in the morgue, even with no one alive around, the dead body in question was found quickly and just as Mikoto was finished telling the corpse goodbye, he heard a noise behind him, that sounded like a soft gasp. While believing that something like zombies existed, though it was unlikely that he would find one here, Mikoto calmly turned towards the source of the noise and came face-to-face with a man dressed in a doctor’s overall he hadn’t noticed earlier, standing on the other side of the room. After looking at each other for a good minute without saying a single word, Mikoto finally excused himself and quickly turned to leave without asking who the other even was. However, he hadn’t even managed to make it to the exit when he first heard the other man call after him to wait and then two metallic thuds. Turning around, he found the shorter man laying face down on the cold floor of the morgue, apparetly having knocked himself out when he had tried to follow Mikoto by taking a shortcut under one of the open drawers. Though, it seemed the man had underestimated just how low the open drawer door reached and managed to run against it.
Standing by the door, handle already in hand, Mikoto stared back at the other and waited for him to stand up again, hoping he hadn’t killed himself with that stunt. Though, when it didn’t seem like the man would move, Mikoto went closer to check it he was still alive or if he could just dump his body in one of the empty drawers and go back upstairs.
Poking the mop of unruly hair, the assumed dead man was suddenly very much alive and, before Mikoto even knew what was happening, held onto his shoulders, while staring up at him with big bright eyes. Next thing he knew was the other man, the resident pathologist named Koji -the supposed ghost- telling him how happy he was that someone alive had come visiting him and talking to the dead, while completely ignoring the blood trickling down the side of his face.
Horror Cabinet
Meeting Yoshiaki had been quite an adventure for all the wrong reasons.
Mikoto hadn’t particularly cared of going to meet the older man. His bosses, though, thought that it would be a good idea to go and meet the doctors he didn’t already know after he had started working again in his old hospital. So, there he was, knocking on the door to the psychologist’s office. When no answer came, even though the door didn’t appear to be locked, Mikoto decided to wait inside since he was already there and didn’t feel like coming there another time.
However, no rumor, or warning in this case, could’ve prepared him for what he had found inside. Not only were the curtains closed and thus making the room appear dark and eerie, there sitting on various shelves and the desk itself, were puppets and plush toys. At first, Mikoto had assumed he was in the wrong office, since this looked more like one might imagine the office of a pediatrician who took their job a little too seriously. Upon further inspection, Mikoto found next to the puppets and plush toys, little wooden dolls, some without a face painted on them, some with what could only be described alien eyes on them.
Since it had taken some time for Yoshiaki to return to his office, Mikoto had sat down in the other man’s chair behind the desk and began to play with a white plush cat he had found sitting on the side of the desk.
When the man in question then had finally arrived, he didn’t even notice that he wasn’t alone, but had went straight to the curtains to open them. That, then, was the exact moment, Mikoto decided to make his presence known by turning the chair towards the older doctor and telling him that he had been waiting for him, while still holding the white plush cat in one arm and petting it with the other. Mikoto didn’t think he had ever heard another man screech that high like Yoshiaki had done when he had turned around and saw him. No. For all the world, he looking like he was ready to climb up the curtains faster than a cat, frightened as he was.
Reminder of the Past
Rumiko was a fragment of his past self that somehow had managed to find its way into this new life.
The first time, Mikoto had met the nurse back in America when he was 16. They hadn’t really talked then. He was on his way back to Japan, while the older woman had just arrived to continue her education.
After that, their ways didn’t overlap again. It was only in the hot summer of 2013 when Mikoto had been back to work at his old university hospital, that they had met again. Mikoto wasn’t really interested in meeting the other again, though, he had refrained from rolling his eyes. Rumiko, on the other hand, had appeared overjoined as she hadn’t thought of seeing the young surgeon again. And while Mikoto didn’t roll his eyes at the woman’s joy of seeing a familiar face again, he did scowl at her when she had pinched his cheeks and told him to smile while grinning herself.
