Use Facial Expressions

It has been found that there are several different facial expressions your dog will positively respond to. For example, it had been found that the dog may raise his eyebrow when he sees you have come home and he offers this gesture as his own subtle greeting.

Dogs have three major nerve centers on their bodies and the ears happen to be one of them. While we may find a bit of humor in the fact that our dog runs away from the vacuum cleaner or we find that they seize up when around other dogs or strangers, we need to find ways to help them face their different fears to help avoid any traumatic and unnecessary situations and feelings.

Trips to the veterinarian

Thunderstorms

Being around new people and other pets

Fireworks and other loud noises

Use Positive Reinforcement

One of the best ways to help your dog face their fears is by employing a bit of positive reinforcement. Making sure they know simple commands such as stay and sit are good and will help the environment feel a bit more controlled for them. As always, reward their good behavior and listening skills with a treat and make sure they feel safe and secure.

Desensitize Them to What Scares Them

If you find that your dog is afraid of being around new people, you should begin to desensitize them and slowly introduce them to their fear in small increments to give them ample time to overcome the fear and get used to it. To begin with, make sure there is enough distance between the dog and the thing they are afraid of and be patient with the process.

Talk to a Professional

If you have found that you have done everything as suggested and you have tried to create a calm and secure environment to help them overcome their fears but are finding it to be more challenging than you thought, consider talking to a professional.

They are experienced when it comes to knowing how to help pup face their fears and can offer sound advice and support for both you and pup.
