This is one of my favourite boxes that we have had come into the store recently. It is Chinese in its origins and is topped with a bone carving of a pair of Bactrian camels. The exterior has had a design worked into its surface which has been overlaid with a bright yellow enamel, the box opens to reveal an interior lined in a soft blue. This Georgian era dish dates between 1792 and 1804 and was made by the Worcester firm Flight and Barr. It measures 22cm square by 4cm height and has been hand painted with a leaf and vine design. The gold gilt details would have sparkled and shone in the candlelight of these 18th century dining rooms and it still sparkles now on a modern table. Especially fabulous filled with chocolates and treats at Christmas. $120.
