Also from @eternalravendreamer‘s prompt barrage (if you expected I’d select one or two, THINK AGAIN): Reiner sees MC get excited because she saw a cute dog.

Holy shit, she didn’t think think dogs existed here. Maybe it wasn’t even a dog, who knows? But it looked like a dog and that was what mattered.

“Holy shit, holy shit.” She hadn’t been this excited in ages, but THIS WORLD HAD DOGS!

“Melinda?” Reiner asked, looking moderately concerned at the current emotional state of his fiancee.

She grabbed his arm, pointing to the animal sniffing around the barns. “That’s a dog. That’s a dog.”

“Yes, what of it?” he asked, still looking torn between utter confusion and laughter.

“I. Love. Dogs,” she said, turning to get very close to him. “I love them more than I love -” she was about to say sex, but wasn’t sure how that would go over, “- chocolate. I wanted one, but my apartment had a size limit and I wanted a huge dog and I honestly didn’t know if they existed here and - oh my god he’s adorable. I want to pet him.”

“I see.” Humor was definitely winning out now, Reiner starting to cough slightly to hide his chuckles. “Well that’s Lord Conway’s hound and he’s rather particular about them, so I don’t think he’d appreciate you going to pet his best hunter.”

“Awww,” she pouted. “But he’s so fluffy!” 

“Let’s go, dear, Lord Conway is not a patient man.” Reiner couldn’t hide his laughter now.

It was her wedding day and everything had (surprisingly) gone smoothly. No one had died, gotten stabbed, and no unwanted, violent guests had invited themselves (or crashed through the windows).

She and Reiner were opening gifts from the retainers when Ryland darted in to whisper in his ear.

“Ah, yes, bring it in,” he said.

“What is it Reiner?” Melinda asked.

“As if I could neglect to give my bride a present,” he said.

“Oh.” She now was blushing. “I… don’t have anything for you. I didn’t think-”

“It’s all right,” he said. “This was more of a spontaneous decision.”

“Oh?” Her eyes widened as Ryland and Solaire brought in a large box. It shook as they brought it forward, and she wasn’t sure what to expect. “Is it going to eat me?”

Ryland coughed loudly.

“I don’t believe so.” Even Reiner was struggling not to laugh. “But I believe it’s better to open it sooner rather than later.”

Gingerly, she pulled the top off, the jerky movements making it hard to grasp.

“HOLY SHIT!” she yelled, not caring who she shocked. “You did - you got me - IT’S A DOG!!” And it was big and fluffy. She wasn’t sure exactly what the equivalent Earth breed was, but she didn’t care. There was 150 pounds of furry goodness to hug. But first -

She tackled Reiner, toppling him off his chair. She barely noticed they were now on the floor, too busy peppering his face with kisses. “You. Are. The. Best. Husband. Ever.” She emphasized each word with another kiss. There was a bark and she whipped her head around to look at her dog. She probably had thanked Reiner enough (at least in public), so she lunged for her new pet.

The universe was loving her, cause this dog met her in the middle and bowled her over, covering her face with kisses of his own. “This is the best day ever!” she said, in between fits of laughter.

Saerys helped Reiner up, then they both watched the bride shower her present with love.

“You do realize she probably will love that dog more than you,” Iseul said.

He chuckled. “I wouldn’t have her any other way.”
