Oh yes “thing” is still a word in Scandinavia used to refer to a gathering or group discussing a specific issue. It’s a bit old fashioned, but the Danish government for example is literally called: “The Peoples Thing”

Is this book originally written in english? I feel compelled to ask, since the danish word for grain is “korn” so something could have gotten mixed up in translation..? idk though, it is entirely possible that I’m wrong.
The book it's self isn't, but the sources she used might have made a mistake if that's the case.
