Modern AU Khadgar is Callan's ex. They are still good friends after all. Then, maybe 5 years later, Khadgar is dating Anduin, don't know that he is his ex's father.
Khadgar and Callan had had a good run. It was fun to be with someone like Callan; he was such a sweet boy, a little shy, a little white. He was a lot like Khadgar in some respects. They had similar interests in books, their dates often consisting of trips to various little bookshops around the city, or museums. Callan really was sweet, but it wasn’t long before the honeymoon phase wore off and they realized it just wasn’t going to work. They needed different things in a partner than each other. That isn’t to say it wasn’t a good experience for them over all, because it was. They were each other’s first boyfriends, starting at the end of senior year, and they learned much about themselves.
In the end, they agreed to stay friends. They were better suited for that kind of easy companionship.
After graduation, Callan went into the military while Khadgar went off to university on a scholarship he was amazed to have gotten. They made sure to keep in contact over the years, talking over the phone at least a few times a week, or texting when thy couldn’t.
Callan kept him updated on what military life was like-it sounded horrific in Khadgar’s opinion, way too much running and waking up horrifically early-while Khadhar told him what it was like to go to University. He’d managed to get into Dalaran U, which he’d never even dated dream of. Forget Harvard it Yale or even Cambridge, Dalaran was the crème de la crème of universities.
After getting through basic training, Callan met someone more to his tastes, and Khadgar was happy for his friend. And also a little jealous, because he was having such little luck in the dating field that it was almost sad. Although, that meant he could devote much more time to school, which was definitely needed.
Then, while taking a short break from school after finishing his undergrad program, at twenty-three years old, he finally met someone.
It was, of course, at a bar, when he had been celebrating by himself. It was a little sad, but he couldn’t bring himself to care after a few drinks into the night. Then over came this Viking God of a man, offering to buy his next round. Khadgar readily accepted, and he expected this to be some one night hookup-and for the love of everything that was holy, he was sooo alright with that-when he went home with the man, Anduin, later that night. It was probably the best night he’d had in the last five years. What he could remember of it, anyway.
When he woke up in the morning, surprising without a hangover, he got dressed and went on his way, thinking that would be it. Then he ran into Anduin again a week later. Went home with him again, rinse repeat. Surprisingly, it was Anduin who gave him his number first, much to Khadgar’s great amazement and pleasure. It was such an amazing twist of fate that Khadgar could hardly believe it. And yet, all he had to do was look at his phone.
Their weekly hookups became every few nights. Then that became going out for coffee, taking walks along the beach, just doing normal, everyday couple stuff that made him feel like a teenager again when he’d first started dating. Only, as the weeks became months, the feeling didn’t fade this time.
Amazingly, it got to the point where Anduin decided it was time Khadgar met his son. Things were starting to get serious, and he didn’t want to go any further until that point, and his son was coming home on leave for a little while.
“You kind of remind me of him,” he’d said. “You’re both bookworms. You more than him, though.”
Nothing Anduin could have said would have prepared him for the shock of this. He remembered Callan saying he was on leave soon, and that they should meet up after he did some stuff with his dad. He hadn’t connected the dots that ‘stuff’ would be this.
“Hey, what a surprise. I didn’t expect to see you here. What brought you away from your books?”
“Well, that guy I’ve been dating? I’m here to meet his kid.”
Anduin cleared his throat, and the three of them kind of just. Looked at each other. Anduin looked a little green around the gills, Khadgar was mildly horrified, and Callan looked like he was somewhere between shock and trying not to laugh.
“Oh my god. Please tell me Anduin isn’t your father. I’m begging you.”
“I would, but you know how I feel about lying.”
“Jesus, fuck- I’m dating my exs father.”
“Ex? You were dating Callan? When?”
“High school,” they both answered.
“I need a drink,” Anduin said under his breath, turning to get s beer from the bartender. Callan and Khadgar both followed suit.
“Well,” Khadhar started awkwardly. “I think we have some things to talk about…”
