I feel so galaxy brain about Pink and Blue's dynamic now bc I finally put two and two together a day or so ago when I was thinking about
1. How I was analyzing the pubbies personalities and motivations and thinking about how @nvbk was talking about honing in on what the Highest Value Reward is for individual dogs, and Blue's is very obviously my approval and attention, followed by food. Pink has no interest in these things and so I worked out that her Highest Value Reward was working. She just wants to do her job!
2. Blue resource guards food a lot but Pink the opposite of does that to the point where she sometimes just lets the goats eat it lol. I was thinking about how odd it is that Pink is SO controlling with Blue but didn't seem to be concerned about controlling her access to things like bones or food etc. . . And then I realized!!!! PINK DOESN'T DO THAT BC SHE DOESN'T VALUE FOOD OR BONES. SHE RESOURCE GUARDS... BUT THE RESOURCE IS WORK!!!!!!!!!! She constantly followed Blue around and breathed down her neck and would correct her for exercising her Working skills and instincts!!! She didn't want Blue to do the work bc she valued it so much she wanted to be the one to do all of it!!!!! SHE WAS RESOURCE GUARDING *WORK*
We got some anti-digging yoke collars and now we look like fools.
A note: these are temporary till we move and can install some better fencing, so they can't keep engineering escapes and won't get shot or hit by a truck. Don't worry :p they will be uncomfortable but it will only be for a couple of months
Cyril and I opened the gate between the puppy and goat areas today so that the goats can eat the weeds in the puppy area and Blue can have more space to explore and patrol. She is doing great!!! I even took her dangle stick off and she's so happy now omg
Oh the people who came for Pink just seem like an amazing match. The lady was so enthusiastic about her. They just picked her up. I'm so relief!!! I hope Blue doesn't get too lonely. I would go spend some time with her rn but it is POURING rain so she is in maximum traveling mud salesman mode at the moment
How are pink and blue doing?
Pink was rehomed to a great horse and goat farm a couple of weeks ago! She was really domineering towards Blue -- littermate syndrome stuff -- and it made for a bad dynamic for them doing their jobs and being happy together. Blue has really been maturing and coming into her own amazingly since then. She's learning her duties so fast. Still a puppy but definitely progressing into adulthood and getting into Doing Work and having confidence in herself. I'm so so proud of her. I MISS HER SO MUCH!!!
I got an update from Pink's new family that she is settling in really well, she met the house dogs and female goats + babies yesterday and did well with all of them, and apparently is making the adjustment impressively quickly so far. They are having her sleep inside the first few days while she gets used to things and apparently she tried to eat the husband's spaghetti lol. But for a dog who has never previously lived inside she sounds like she is doing well with it besides the spaghetti incident :') I'm proud of her
Cyril has found a lady interested in Pink who sounds absolutely perfect, I don't wanna jinx it, but I'm really optimistic about it. She's driving 2 hours to come see her tomorrow (and possibly even pick Pink up and take her home if she likes what she sees!!!) She has horses and goats and 8 acres. Experience training dogs and willingness to finish training Pink to be fully trustworthy around the livestock before she hits 2 years. Plus she just sounds like she is really excited to meet Pink!!!! I think it's exactly what Pink needs. I will miss her, I think, but I'm so excited for her to be in a place where she can get the most out if what she wants re: working, and also excited for BLUE to be able to fully blossom into the dog she could become, without her sister constantly punishing her for like. Having opinions
