Week 1 R&D -3D Production Pipeline
Im going to be showing an understanding of the typical stages in a 3D Production Pipeline throughout episodic posts weekly, Beginning with the Pre-Production and Modelling stages.
Pre-Production: During this phase, we are required to find the direction in which we want the project to take its first form. Of course this means taking into account the concepts for style, characters, look, setting and much more are determined. this stage is so that everyone in the project, especially in collaborations, has an understanding of the size of the project and task at hand, helping everyone through the pipeline.
Modelling Stages: Before stating this course i would never believe how all of the complex CGI and well, anything animated can start from a primitive shape, Such as a: Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Tube and a Pyramid. These Primitives are modeled from scratch, using a variety of techniques to meet projects requirements, It is also good to have an image such as a drawing or photo to work off, even simplifying the object into its primitives so it is easier to construct. The Modelling phase, takes all of the concepts from pre-production and starts bringing them to life. Assets are usually modelled with the style or concepts set forth in the pre-production phase. In my course I use 3Ds Max, starting with a completely empty 3D scene and build up with primitives, this is used for everything from a scene to a character and even props. A 3D model is made up of a series of points called vertices that are connected to form a mesh. These vertices have all been meticulously placed by a 3D modeller and I can add more in via ‘Shift-loop’, or manipulate the points of these vertices. i did this upon constructing my lock for a chest i was working on.
The Modelling Stage is one of the first and most important steps in the 3D pipeline because it is essentially the creation of the all of the props, characters and set used throughout all of the other steps in the 3D pipeline.
