I had this a bit ago but got caught up in the mer stuff and forgot to post! This would be the first time Pietro ends up saying "I love you" and while Bobby had been wanting to say it for a while since he did actually say he loved him when he almost died in the frozen wasteland, but Pietro wasn't really conscious enough to know if he had or not. Tho Bobby would kind of ask if Pietro had heard what he said then or not and Pietro would silently squeeze his hand. Neither of them really addressing it again since. So while Bobby hadn't said it out loud, he definitely had through his actions.

This would be when Pietro had finally gotten his speed back but his body wasn't feeling used to it anymore and he actually got weak and threw up after going so hard with it so soon and his body needed to adjust, so he was made to rest and Bobby the next morning bothered to get up early (he's usually not a morning bird like Pietro) and make Pietro some breakfast in bed and even made some heart-shaped ice in his drink~ And Pietro, I'd-rather-die-than-cry-in-front-of-others, Maximoff was suddenly so overwhelmed with the gesture and the fact that someone actually genuinely cares for him so much he was actually moved to tears and finally says out loud what both had been feeling for a long time now. Bobby hesitated to say it first bc he didn't want to come on too strong when Pietro was always the one so hesitant with accepting their relationship, so once it was finally said by him it just opened the floodgates for Bobby.

Anyway, I love these stupid sappy boys. <3

1x07 Turn of the Rogue

Scott and Kurt continue their delightful intimacy in the early training montage, they keep this up and they're really going to grow on me as an actual ship 😅

Okay but then this episode seems to be chiefly asking me to ship Scott and Marie of all people??? And like, I'm not NOT into it as portrayed here... but I'm very aware that a) surely no girl is ever gonna crowbar Scott away from Jean's side and b) Marie belongs with Remy dammit! My one true m/f ship!!! Though I guess she hasn't met him yet (indeed neither have we) so it's hardly cheating for her to catch feels for Scott, haha. It's adding flavor, I'll give it that.

Bayville High gotta be some fancy ass rich kids school to be sending students out on field trips with freaking snowmobiles, I never heard of such a thing???

I generally tend to give a lot of leeway to things that could be considered plotholes in shows made chiefly for kids, but I gotta say, Raven blew her cover for absolutely no reason I could fathom in this episode and that moment felt really jarring. She could so easily have just shoved Scott off that cliff while still disguised as Paul, before Scott had even a moment of suspicion. If the plot needed Scott to figure out who she was, it should have been that he saw her change when she didn't realise he was watching or something. This way of doing the reveal was such two-dimensional Look At Me I'm So Evil And I Enjoy It Bwahaha posturing, and it's disappointing because I know X-Men can give us villains SO much more complex and interesting than that.

On the other hand though, the part where Marie realised how thoroughly she'd been manipulated because she touched Raven and acquired Raven's memories of tricking her? That was rad! So I'm not dunking on the episode as a whole, just that one part.

Then we get Scott banging his head and going all whumpee which I have been told will be a recurring theme and haha yes I am here for it. Marie defending and rescuing Scott from Wolf!Raven, also delightful. Love a feeble boy.

I thought it was clever how she got Scott to use his laser eye beams as a flare gun to signal for help, 10/10 as a strategy no notes.

Anyway, it's about time we got Marie on side and I'm delighted about it. Seems like the main gang is finally all assembled in the mansion, huzzah!

In Scott's defense... he hasn't had the best encounters with merpeople and instead of a plane crash it was a shipwreck, tho it was caused by Magneto, not Pietro. He wasn't giant when he was younger, but Scott doesn't know that. If he had waited a couple seconds more he would have seen them kiss, but he wasn't going to give those extra seconds to see if the sea monster was going to bite Bobby's head off or not as it plays with its prey. Scott also had a moment of seeing Pietro in the depths when their ship sank from the storm and he wasn't sure if he was seeing things or not bc he figured it even more unlikely that Bobby had survived that when that was lurking in the area...

Pietro's lucky he didn't get him in the eye or a more vital area tbh... A harpoon is going to be hard to get out as well. He gets interrupted in an intimate moment and then it looks like his lover is getting abducted? This will go swimmingly for Scott... Bobby will have to diffuse and tell Pietro to leave. Scott calling him a monster and Bobby having to fight his case and admit that who he just harpooned was his boyfriend, short-circuiting Scott. (He might not mention how they had literally had sex shortly before this... Lucky he didn't walk in on that)

I'm still wondering if I'll draw the rest of this interaction. I might try to but don't want to promise anything. It would be after this interruption that Pietro ends up getting caught by his dad tho with the proof of his human mingling still in his shoulder, and it will be a while before Bobby even sees him again. Bobby not even sure if he's still alive after the injury and really upset with Scott. I don't think he would have forgiven him if he had killed him. He wouldn't have known for sure until he showed up on the shore one day human. And then they finally get to talk when Bobby is helping him bathe, or at least.. converse. Pietro can't talk then.

Okay last set of rambling thoughts to release to the internet ether.

This is probably an unoriginal take: But X-men: Evolution is what the Fox movies should have been but didn't have the run time to do so. I understand why the movies were the way they are - they are products of their time. And in that time superhero movies were not yet that popular and they needed it to be palatable to the general movie going audience so some sacrifices had to be made. But I genuinely believe that had they gone for a tv series route by either committing fully to X-men: Evolution or by doing a live-action TV show, I think it would have showed the X-men dynamics better instead of focusing on Wolverine and a few others in the movies.

X-men: Evolution showed how it could be done. They even stripped Rogue's super strength and super flight that she got from Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel and made me love her even more than before. Scott was the leader of the X-men and this adaptation had the best version of his romance with Jean. Jean was able to be shown as a badass without relying on the Phoenix saga. She was also able to be her own person. The sibling dynamic between Rogue and Kurt, especially after they discover Mystique is their mom. THE NON-EXISTENCE OF THE LOGAN-JEAN-SCOTT LOVE TRIANGLE THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THEIR CHARACTERS! Rogue and Gambit (even though they weren't a couple). The nuances of other mutant groups. I could go on and on.

Had the Fox movies went with the X-men: Evolution route and actually showcase that each member of the team deserves to be a fan favorite of someone, they would have been phenomenal.

1x06 Middleverse

Oooo, time travel episode? 😃

Lowkey kinda obsessed over how the school restrooms are labelled BOYS and LADY 🧐🤔😄

Oh okay, not quite time travel after all. Pocket dimension episode! That's also fun.

I like the Scott/Kurt tension in this, in which Scott is just such a fucking square and Kurt is acting the clown to the point of carelessness. Then Scott gets to be all frustrated and Kurt gets to be all butthurt and yes, let the boys have big feelings about each other, I'm into it. I'm not shipping it per se, I definitely see them as more of a big bro little bro type friendship, but it's still very appealing.

The payoff to that, when it's Scott of all people who says Kurt wouldn't goof off about something so serious, is very satisfying 👌

I suspect/hope we've not seen the last of Forge, he must be one of the real early mutants and that could be a fun concept to play with.

I'm struggling to find much else to say about this one honestly, I liked the character beats and the concept was interesting but it doesn't feel like they've done much of consequence with it. Moving on!

It's Daddy Magneto making his appearance in the mer AU and also with an EPIC the musical reference lol I just thought it was very fitting for this part, tho it brings a bit of a different vibe. The 3 days are up and Magnus is coming to collect his wayward son.

Magneto isn't technically big here, but he doesn't need to in order to be terrifying to Pietro. What's a giant to the entirety of the ocean tbh? And poor Bobby is barely even noticeable here but I kind of wanted the scale here to show just how little he is compared to basically gods of the ocean (yet he still fights for his bf). Although I still think he will also go giant for the climax bc he can kind of do whatever he wants.

Think the lot of them would kind of combine forces to try and fight him off and take the triton away from him, since that seems to be where most of the power lies, and they'll usurp him and imprison him and Wanda gets to be in charge. It's a fight they didn't think they'd win, but the twins would be fed up with him at this point. They'll fight him scared.

The other page I had done of their first proper meeting in the mer AU! I was wondering if I wanted to commit to doing all the shading and lighting on this comic since I did the first page that way, but it would be kind of relevant to the excerpt, so... I guess I'm buckling down for several pages of this! 😅 It may take me a bit to get through tho.

I think initially Bobby has a lot of language that kind of reveres Pietro as more of a deity than an person, and it would make Pietro visibly uncomfortable. While he loves praise and would eat it up at first, he'd start to wonder if Bobby is even seeing him as a person when he's trying to flirt with him and see him as an equal, while to Bobby, Pietro at first is something so incomprehensible and amazing to him that he doesn't think he could think of him that way (tho he is also crushing hard) And tbh, he's not too far off thinking Pietro is like a god when his daddy is basically Poseidon (tho he doesn't know that yet). Pietro just wouldn't want to view himself that way and wishes to connect with others, which is already difficult for him with the giant thing.

They'll get to talk it out tho, don't worry.
