Running from the others, the time that flew past as he would shift. The faint radio playing in the background with a music that fully enhanced the immersion into the wide open space, this land of flowers, creatures bolted around. Deer. The roads long forgotten, those clumped spaces and the fighting, the running for his life. The sweet aroma and gentle winds that filled his senses with some type of greeting, calling out to him really it felt like as he gazes ahead. The sun never looked so beautiful.
The labs, the tests, the horrible knives and tests. The endless nights on watch, the casualties, the memory wipes, everything. It was gone, he was free, he was with nature, he was surrounded by the earth itself, no scantily made walls, no towering doom.
Legs move just as something catches his sight, something iridescent blue. Something fluttering along that forces his body to move and the gravity trying to pull him down the hill doesn’t matter anymore, the invisible chains are snapping free as he moves toward the light. Mako eyes of gleaming starlight brightening with a spark that was once long taken. He looks younger, he looks like a young adult finally taken from the darkness’s grasp as he finds himself able to run. His feet aren’t skidding on rough steel or hard concrete. No threat lies beneath his feet that could be life threatening.
He runs, wild and free as he drops the sword, that gently settles upon the earth. Instead he runs free and into the wild, petals scattering as lips part into a smile, beaming really as he stops atop the hill to see the mountain range, the beautiful bright blue sky and he breathes, easy, free.
And he laughs, tears of joy running down his face but he laughs. He truly laughs because he’s finally free, he’s truly free out here. In fact he turns and runs through the meadow before finally he fumbles, falling into a roll but he laughs the entire time, stopping finally surrounded by beautiful flowers so wild and free its almost unbelievable.
But he laughs.
Because he’s free.
