Do I Follow Them?: yes !! another friend from my rpg days c: Why Did I Follow Them?: because i love them !! amethyst is a v dear friend and has been for many many many years, and i would follow them anywhere. beyond that: it’s rare to find a writer for pansy who embraces just how awful she can be, and as we have all seen a billion times by now, awful women are my bread and butter, so getting to see amethyst not only acknowledge and accept pansy’s flaws and her capacity for cruelty, but to really let that grow and thrive... it’s pretty wonderful. An AU Idea For Our Muses: so not to be dragon age trash but i really do what to see how they interact in dragon age, and over a longer period, too. like, warden pansy and inquisitor astoria? when there’s a change in power dynamics, and when they’re forced to come face-to-face with how similar they are and where they do diverge under very high-pressure situations, with very high stakes. looking at where they draw lines, how they differentiate between right and wrong, and whether or not that changes. i love it. i love it !! A Song For Our Muses: “this world” by lena fayre. i think it really gives voice to a lot of their similarities: the selfishness, the ambition, the hunger, and then beyond that, how lost they both become. Do I Ship Our Muses?: you know, i really thought i’d have the answer to this for more people. i honestly don’t know. i think that the tenuous friendship they develop is so powerful, and so poignant; i’m not sure how it would work if that were to get complicated? and i do think that, with their relationship what it is, any sort of romance or sex would be a complication. with that said: if they’re in an AU where they don’t have that shared history, then i think that the dynamic — which would be toxic & volatile — could be fascinating. so i could see it going either way. What I Think About The Mun: amethyst is, like i said, a dear friend and has been for a long time. we’ve been through a lot together in these past six and a half years (jesus christ can you BELIEVE it’s been that long) and we’ve seen each other through more than i can really count. i love them very, very much and i can’t really imagine not having them in my life. Overall Opinion: spectacularly talented, incredible in every way. a really amazing writer and an even more amazing friend. a genuine joy in my life.

The most frustrating thing about this war they’re carrying on, she thinks, is just how many people are adamantly pretending that nothing has changed. The common room is empty around them, most students having hurried to bed at the threat of a curfew, but Elissa knows that the threat of disappointing Amycus and Alecto is far more present than the threat of annoying Slughorn. She’ll take lost House Points over a detention any day.

Sighing, Elissa closes the book in her lap, and she raises her eyebrows. Pansy’s Head Girl appointment is about what Elissa had expected. She knows that being Daphne’s little sister isn’t going to win her anything. “I don’t expect anything from you,” she says after a beat, resting her hand on the closed cover of the book. “The deputy heads have given me a task. I’m completing it. You’re welcome to report me if you want, but it’ll go over Slughorn’s head, and I don’t think the Carrows will care very much.”

She hesitates, then — “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into,” she says finally. “With Amycus.” The semester hasn’t gone on for too long, now, but it’s been long enough to make it clear that this year will not be like anything that came before. “Keep your head down and keep out of his way. Nothing good comes from getting their attention.” ( If Pansy reports this back to them, Elissa is in trouble, she knows — sure, she can pass it off as ambition, not a real warning, but she’ll be disciplined for her selfishness. )

Elissa tugs absentmindedly at the sleeves of her cardigan — she’s worn them down all day, every day since she got back, despite the occasional heat. “Don’t start anything you can’t finish,” she says after a beat. “And trust me when I say that nobody can finish this.”

“ then don’t get caught. ” easier said than done. hogwarts was more of a home than he’d ever really had, that he can really remember. any other semblance of one had died with his mother. to suggest that he was falling for it wouldn’t be off - base. he didn’t dare say it out loud: i miss when dumbledore walked these halls. i miss the whimsy of our first year. i miss it when they weren’t trying to strip us of our humanity. to have done so would have been to incite suspicion that seifer couldn’t afford. emotions didn’t make him soft, he could still be cruel like they wanted and have a heart that beat and wasn’t frozen.

“ hope you’re not having second thoughts. the very moment you start slippin’, i’ll be on your damn ass. ” her cold nature was a constant in his life. for that to suddenly disappear, he didn’t know what he’d do. seifer feared that it’d all finally become too much and he’d finally --- finally --- succumb to snape’s reign over hogwarts, turning into just another tool without an ounce of autonomy to speak of. yeah, he and pansy weren’t friends, but he knew that he could stand all this as long as she still was.

so he didn’t ask if she was okay. he didn’t allow for her to continue to suspect him of being confined by his nostalgia. it wasn’t like anyone could discern his rage from anxiety anyway.

THERE WERE VERY FEW SANCTUARIES WITHIN THESE WALLS THESE DAYS. seifer took all he can, the status of head boy and girl affording him and pansy such a place. he would never call her a friend, but she was also the closest thing he had to that. they ripped into each other on the daily, she argued that he was wasting his energy by making her life difficult. seifer would counter with it being free entertainment, that he wanted to see just how much he could rile her up. she didn’t give so easily as most of the student body.

but now ? it was office hours, they were alone, and something didn’t feel right so he couldn’t keep his attention on the open text resting on his lap. periodically, cyan eyes peeked at where pansy sat over feet that were propped upon the desk at which he sat. some part of him thought that if he kept looking, maybe he’d touch on something. seifer wouldn’t say she was easy to read --- she was a stone - cold bitch, after all --- and that hadn’t gotten any simpler for him to achieve this year.

then she spoke and fangs were bared in a grin. any quiet calculation was gone in an instant, the subtle genius replaced by the arrogant boy in a heartbeat. as if he were a shark and he smelled blood.

“ got a problem with that, pans ? ” brows rose with the thrown gauntlet as if he was daring her to challenge him. “ just taking advantage of a room with a view. aren’t you always going on and on about how i shouldn’t waste my energy ? ”

8. Where and when do they seem most and least at ease? Why? How can you tell?

hannah’s going to be least at ease anywhere where she’s expected to perform under pressure, particularly academically. exams were always terrible for her, particularly the practical portions. she’s most at ease....in pretty much any other situation, mostly around friends. the hufflepuff common room is absolutely her safe place at hogwarts, followed by the greenhouses. she absolutely loves the leaky cauldron, even if it’s not what she expected for herself: she feels safe there, because she knows that it’s work that she can do/it keeps her around other people/it gives her things to do/etc. she becomes a lot less fidgety in times where she’s most at ease, she smiles more, her body language is a lot more open in general. her voice can also go sort of more high-pitched/halting than usual in uncomfortable circumstances,which is likely the biggest giveaway.

16. Do they dream? What are those dreams like?

before the war, not really. or....she knows she must have had dreams, but they don’t linger long enough for her to remember them very long. they certainly weren’t anything unusual. after the war, though, she has fairly vivid and frequent nightmares, mostly of the battle of hogwarts replaying. most of these nightmares include deaths that never happened (but could have) or voldemort’s side winning, etc. she also will sometimes dream of the war re-erupting, making the context of her nightmares her present-day life.

24.How do they present themselves socially? What distinguishes their “persona” from their “true self”, and what causes that difference?

to be honest, there isn’t a heck of a lot of difference between public-persona-hannah and true-self-hannah. what you see is sort of what you get when it comes to her. the biggest difference is just in comfort/openness, and the fact that she comes across as more shy than she truly is. she’s quieter around people she doesn’t know, preferring to let her friends take the lead. around friends or around people she actively likes/trusts, or in environments where she’s comfortable, she’s much less outwardly shy.

32. Do they have any “props” that are a significant part of their life, identity, activities, or self-presentation somehow? What are they, how are they used, and why are they so significant? How would these props’ absence impact them, how would they compensate, and why?

food/drink, sweater sleeves, and her own hands/fingers are probably the biggest “props” i can think of. hannah has a lot of nervous energy just...as a person? and a lot of that manifests in needing something to do with her hands, whether that’s tugging at her sweater sleeves, absently just....doing things with her hands/fingers. the food/drink thing is obviously most present at the leaky cauldron, mostly because it provides a good excuse for her to be Doing Things.

40.What do they wonder about? What sparks their curiosity and imagination, and why? How is this expressed, if it is?

hannah is, perhaps stereotypically, very curious about the natural world: plants, animals, how things grow, how best to nurture them. she’s fascinated by healing magic, even if it does also sort of intimidate her. she’ll also naturally reflect other people’s curiosities, to a certain extent. she doesn’t have that much interest in quidditch technicalities, for example, but if someone she’s talking to is really passionate about it, she’s going to engage: she’ll ask questions, let them talk about it as much as they’d like, etc.

There’s no heat or malice behind the words, though she thinks it would help get her point across if she could summon it. All she really wants to ask is how Margaery got all these romantic notions of things like true love, of someone being kind without a reward or even a demand. Where she got the idea that anything like that would matter for people like them. Daughters of the pureblood elite, forever pawns in their parents machinations with little say in the matter. They must make their voices heard, in every place they can. They all learn it from an age that is, perhaps, far too young except for Margaery, it seems.

Pansy’s almost jealous.

She sighs, a frown on her lips, as she tilts her head back to rest it against the stone wall and stare upwards to the ceiling. There’s a nagging voice in the back of her head that says she’s right, that anyone who has to be told how to treat another nicely is… well, not worth the time. And maybe it’s easier for someone like her, someone that can walk into a room and is instantly beloved, to make such a demand. But she has always been venom and sharp tongue, and the same can be said for the others she’s made her bed with.

❝ If you want niceties, go hang out with the Hufflepuffs. It’s all sunshine and rainbows over there, anyway. We’re all too busy making sure we’re the absolute best to worry about such things, so I suggest you get used to it. Sooner, rather than later. And get comfortable making demands ; it’s the only way you’ll get what you want. ❞

She listens patiently as Pansy brushes away her concerns and rebukes her with sharp words--all the while dancing about the original question and its implications. Margaery had, of course, expected some difficulty in broaching this topic but she was in no way discouraged. If anything, the other girl’s vehement opposition only served to bolster her resolve.

“I have no qualms with making demands, love. Surely you know that by now.” What’s more, those demands are usually met. She graces Pansy with an easy smile but there is steel in her eyes that does not soften. “But I’m not talking about intra-house competition. Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor--it’s all petty squabbles, really. And I think you know that.

“No, it’s your peers--your equals--who should know how to treat you.” She didn’t name names but there didn’t seem to be any need to do so. For all her faults, surely Pansy was too smart not to know that Margaery spoke the truth. “No one at this table is above you, love,” she said simply, gesturing briefly to the long rows of Slytherins busy with their own dinner and conversation. “Surely you know that.”
