It’s Purple Heart appreciation day 💜. Shout out to all other veteran recipients and also to those awarded them posthumously.

Yes, this one is actually mine.

I am strong, I am resilient, and I embrace by past.

But my past will never again dictate my future.

Sending a shout out to all of my fellow veterans who were awarded the Purple Heart. It took me many years to fully appreciate mine. I always looked at it as a reminder of the day I was wounded. Until I realized that it isn’t awarded just for being wounded. It’s an award of merit for recognition of what happened before or after being wounded.

Today is Purple Heart appreciation day. This is a shout out to all my fellow veterans in the Military Order of the Purple Heart. I honor those who like myself were wounded in battle as well as our brothers who gave their lives.

BATTLE OF HENRY JOHNSON

During World War I African American solider was ambushed taken prisoner in France by German soliders. He single-handedly managed to kill four soldiers and rescued twenty others and rescue a fellow solider. 

For his bravery he was awarded France’s highest military honor, the Croix de Guerre making him the first enlisted American soldier to win the medal.
