The Pace Report: "Cashing In On Soul" The Brian Owens Interview
Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of The Pace Report of 2018 featuring soul vocalist Brian Owens. Last year Brian made the musical rounds last year as he released two critically-acclaimed releases "Soul of Ferguson" and his tribute to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Johnny Cash with "Soul of Cash." The Ferguson, Missouri native was blessed to open for one of rock and soul legend and hometown native, Michael McDonald, who also appears with him on a duet on his album with the song "For You."
Brian's music style goes back to the southern soul male vocalists that fused country and gospel with modern soul like icons like Ray Charles, Solomon Burke, Joe Simon, and Bill Withers.
He was in town performing music from "Soul of Cash" to a packed house at the Cafe Wha? in NYC. We sat down to talk about the important legacy Johnny Cash left the world, his take on being a soul vocalist, and his group the Deacons of Soul.
