THE RANDOM THOUGHTS ABOUT PROMETHEUS AND ANDAMANESE MYTHOLOGY

In ancient Greek mythology,the story of Prometheus stealing fire seems to be intriguing:It like that fire is a resource that is limited and needs to be conserved,but not something that can be regenerated technically.The ancient Greeks undoubtedly knew how to make fire,and they had seen flames created and extinguished,so why did they think Prometheus brought fire directly to the human world,rather than teaching the skill of making fire to humans?

It's interesting that the indigenous people of the Andaman Islands also have a similar myth about humans getting fire.They believe that Puruga,the creator god,created fire and gave it to humans.In order to demonstrate the benefits of using fire to humans,Puruga roasted a pig in front of them.There is a similar plot in the story of Prometheus:He divided a roasted cow into meat and bones,and disguised for them to mislead Zeus into choosing the bones as a sacrifice,thus leaving the meat to humans.Both linked sacrificed animals to human welfare,but the role of the gods was very different.The Andamanese seem to be one of the few people who are not good at making fires,they have a unique method of maintaining embers for a long time.

The Andaman people have dark skin and curly hair,which led anthropologists for a time to believe that they were the earliest group of Homo sapiens to leave Africa and that they had retained the characteristics of their ancestors.However,genetic research shows that they are actually descended from the same ancestors who left Africa 60000 to 70000 years ago as Europeans and Asians,and their physical characteristics similar to those of Africans are the result of evolution after their ancestors settled in the Andaman Islands.

Regarding the above facts,I have some random thoughts without any evidence.Among the ancestors of modern Eurasians who left Africa,a ethnic group arrived in Southeast Asia.Since this area is always wet and difficult to make fires,that ethnic group gradually became not good at making fires,but was accustomed to maintaining fires.They probably lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and were therefore also adept at carrying fire.They passed down an oral myth about a god who delivered fire to humans,and since lightning is an important cause of natural fire,this god may be related to lightning.Since hunting was not easy,meat was not an easy food for them,so they just used bones as sacrificial items and ate the meat.Later they split into two branches and left Southeast Asia,one of which eventually settled in the Andaman Islands in India,and since the local climate environment is similar to places of residence of their ancestors,the Andaman people still rely more on existing fire,so the myth they developed is closer to its prototype.

Another branch migrated to the Mediterranean and participated in the evolution of the ancient Greeks.They integrated the concept of "gods giving portable fire to humans" into ancient Greek culture. However, as ancient Greece developed a high degree of civilization,people discovered the inconsistency between real life and old myths:How to explain the ease with which humans can make fire,rather than relying on God’s gift,which seems like a betrayal of God?When meat became a more stable food supply,how to explain people keeping the meat for themselves in sacrifices and leaving only the bones to the gods?Therefore,they developed a new myth:the god who manipulated lightning changed from the one who gave fire to human to the one who hindered human,and the sacrificial animal still guided human blessings,but in the new myth it became tool to deceive the god and seize blessings from them.Prometheus was a scapegoat who transferred the guilt and punishment of "rebellion" God from human to himself,just like Jesus Christ carried the cross to atone for human's sins,that explain why Prometheus received no religious worship outside of Athens,as he actually reflected humanity's sins for get rid of the gods.
