I stopped procrastinating from writing by 7ish last night and wrour two mediocre sentences. I then paced, walked around, texted friends, watched the end of Unbreakable, online shopped (but didn’t buy anything... so online browsed?), I then wrote like three more sentences, and then I stared at the screen for a really long time. It was SUPER frustrating, annoying, and irritating. (It didn’t help that it was Saturday night and I imagined everyone else out having fun in Vegas and on party buses!) So I rationalized and made excuses for myself... and then it occurred to me... Maybe I just don’t want to write what I need to write right now. (How’s that for a tongue twister?!) Maybe I want to work on something new. (My editors, producers, agents are all rolling their eyes right now... luckily not all of them are on IG, haha!) So I do just that. I work on a new idea, which may go nowhere or may turn into my next novel. Who the F knows? But what counts is I put words on a page. The point of this story is that writing is hard and writer’s moods are capricious. And sure i’m super fortunate to make a living as a writer, but it isn’t easy. I know you’re waiting to hear that by writing something new I decluttered my brain and was able to work on my actual assignment and it was brilliant. Yeah, not even close. I called it for the night at midnight and got into bed and read someone else’s book. Reading helps! Good books are inspiring. But today’s a new day... and I woke up at 5:20AM and tried to pretend to be asleep until my dog figured out I was faking it and she demanded to be let out on the balcony... where I found this incredible pink sunrise... And then I wrote and finished my assignment?! Nope!
