I don’t even know where to start, but I’m filled with every emotion possible. Anger, sadness, joy, grief, the list goes on.
The story switches back and forth between modern day and 1920s Tulsa, focused around the Tulsa Race Massacre, which I unfortunately had heard only an inkling of before this book.
The twists and turns are phenomenal, leaving me on the edge of my seat until the very end, these two seemingly different lives of the narrators weaving together.
It is an important piece of Black history, American history, that cannot be forgotten.
The emotions that Pyeng and Luke bring into this had me in near tears several times out of happiness and sorrow. The author does not shy away from the ugliness of the past, the reality in which we still live in today.
If there’s anything I can request of my followers, especially during Black History Month and with the current state of the world, it’s to listen to this audiobook and take some time to reflect.
