Interesting Gem Facts: Pyrope is a variety of Garnet. While Pyrope is similar to the canon Garnet from Steven Universe, the Garnet that we know is most likely Almandine Garnet, the most common type of Garnet. Almandine Garnet tends to be red with purple tones, which correlates with Garnet’s status as a fusion between Ruby, a red colored gem, and Sapphire, a blue colored gem. Pyrope Garnet, on the other hand, is always some shade deep red, only occasionally showing undertones of purple; some varieties of Pyrope will also take on green tones when heated.
