OH MY GOD JACKBOX WITH QSMP
quackity was initially invited to genloss but he had to decline bc of timing :(
Ok quick post about the 6th chapter of Q-Space:
Ok first can we talk about how every meme that says that Q can't shut up about Picard to the continuum is true? I DO HAVE THE EVIDENCE YOUR HONOR!!!
Secondly, Q's "wife" (still hard to grasp the concept of gendered language on a genderless species) out there shipping qcard more than any of us is amazing to me
THATS A SEX JOKE DUDE, I KNOW A SEX JOKE WHEN I SEE ONE!
QCARD IS CANNON GAYS AND THEYS CASE CLOSED
Ps: them fighting like an old married couple
To carry on indefinitely with the characterization list...
The Book in Which Each Animorph is the Most Spectacularly BadAss:
Rachel: MM4. To be clear, Rachel cannot morph in this book. She still manages to take down six or seven controllers as an ordinary teenager with zero combat skills, because she’s Rachel. And that means kneecapping Tom with a baseball bat when Temrash 114 tries to kidnap Jake. It means finding a dracon beam and shooting it at a freaking Blade ship when she loses the baseball bat. It means grabbing a severed hork-bajir head off the floor and stabbing a different hork-bajir-controller in the chest with it after Ax takes her dracon beam away. This chick laughs in the face of anyone who thinks that she needs morphing to kick ass and take names.
Cassie: #34. There are multiple moments with Cassie doing incredibly cool estreen stuff throughout the series — MM1 and #44 both also come to mind — but I love the way that Cassie doesn’t push back against Aldrea’s control of her mind until Jake’s and Rachel’s lives are in danger, at which point Cassie brings a mental sledgehammer down upon Ms. Entitled Andalite Mind-Controller. The fact that she does this while also falling from the sky as an osprey-human-whale-thing just goes to show that Cassie could’ve done that all along, but (unlike certain undead andalites who suck at respecting others’ bodily autonomy) she was too polite to do it until it was absolutely necessary.
Ax: #54. Ax’s performance during the whole sticky negotiation with the andalites in this book is the perfect demonstration of the old adage that you can’t be brave if you’re not first crapping your pants in fear. Marco’s and Jake’s narration make it explicitly clear that Ax is more or less telling his entire culture to go fuck itself and is utterly terrified of the implications of doing so — but he’s still standing there doing it, even knowing full well it’ll probably cost him his tail blade and morphing power if not his life.
Tobias: #51. There are a couple different awesome developments in Tobias’s fighting style in this book, from his killdeer-esque distraction display when defending Ax at the Gardens to his divebombing an entire U.S. Army platoon when helping the governor escape. However, I also just love how self-assured he is throughout this book, jokingly snarking right back at Marco throughout their tank heist and announcing to the governor what’s what while also having to adapt their world-saving plan in real time. It took Tobias a long-ass time to get to the point of being cheerily nihilistic instead of gloomy and self-doubting, but he does get there in the end.
Marco: #31. Marco’s two greatest strengths as an individual are his strategic intelligence and his close attachments to his loved ones. The resolution of this book beautifully combines the two when Marco (in a moment we sadly don’t get to see) performs a very polite but firm coup d’êtat and packs all the Animorphs in the car to go save Jake from himself whether Jake likes it or not. Marco not only realizes that the whole family conflict has Jake spiraling out of control, he also figures out a third way out that doesn’t involve sacrificing any of Jake’s family members (okay, maybe parts of Tom get sacrificed, but what’s a little maiming between friends?) and then implements that strategy without permission but with the assumption of forgiveness. He’s also so sweet about the whole thing, and so obviously concerned for Jake, that one can’t even end up holding the mutiny against him.
Jake: #25. There are times when Jake’s tendency to be stoic and responsible nudge him into boringness (case in point, this is also the book where Marco twice calls him “Dad”) but there are a lot of times when Jake’s tendency to be stoic and responsible are exactly what the team needs to hold itself together. The whole situation in this book goes to hell within minutes of the Animorphs landing on Visser Three. First they’re trapped in a back room of the Blade ship and waiting around for some of the dozens of controllers on board to find them and murder them. Then they’re stranded in an environment cold enough that it will literally kill them in minutes. Then they’re desperately careening around an enemy base and an enemy ship in the hope of a ride home. In each case Jake is the force that ensures the center will hold, standing firm and putting on a mask of confidence while just as scared and confused and lost as everyone else there. He looks out for Ax and Tobias, finds a way to keep the others warm — and only then remorphs himself, even though the whole time Marco can see frostbite advancing on him with every moment they stand there. He assumes they’re all going to die just as thoroughly as Marco does, but he keeps it together enough to make sure Rachel doesn’t recklessly sacrifice himself and that Ax doesn’t get killed by venber. Someone should really get this kid a Dad of the Year award.
quackity just said hes 100% adding more people who already speak the languages we have now 👍
