Brian telling Adam that he thinks Freddie wrote In The Lap of the Gods about being closeted is wonderful for several reasons, two of them being:

1) It hammers home the fact that Brian cares so much about Freddie’s sexuality that he’s willing to consider the subtext of his songs to this day, and

2) It hints at it being important for Brian that their current gay lead singer can identify with Freddie’s experiences and lyrics, even though they never met and they are of different generations.

Imagine if Queen + Adam Lambert threw a Halloween party whenever they could tour again. And Adam Lambert tells Brian, “don’t worry, I’ll take care of your costume for you! I got you!”

Adam promptly dresses Brian as Slenderman. (Except you know, with clogs.) And everyone is like OMG THAT’s SO REALISTIC while meanwhile Brian is like, “huh? What’s so scary about a suit?”
