Qetesh
Qetesh, also spelled a myriad of ways, notably though Kadesh. Goddess of love, sex. Known as Mistress of all the Gods. Beloved of Ptah. The Eye of Ra, without her equal. Her worship started in the Levant and spread to Ancient Egypt, where the spelling Qetesh comes from.
Qetesh, as noted, is also spelled Qodesh, a variant of qudshu, holy. Her name in ancient semetic is Q-D-S and it means ‘holy’. She was the Goddess of fertility and sacred ecstasy. It is said that sacred prostitution was among the practices in her temples. There is a city, Qadesh, her center of worship. The city is in the Levant, namely in modern day Syria.
Qetesh is called by many epithets. In addition to the forementioned epithets, she is also called “Lady of the Stars of Heaven", and, "Great of magic, mistress of the stars".
Her husband is Reshef, the God of plague. Reshef is equated with the Mesopotamian Nergal.
To some she is analogous to Athirat, Asherah, Astarte, and Anat- thanks to syncretism. Some aren’t sure that Qadesh was ever a Goddess in her own right. Some believe that she was a Goddess entirely her own, that later became associated with other Goddesses based on their spheres of influence. Qetesh is in the “Triple-Goddess Stone", which shows the goddess Qetesh with the inscription "Qudshu-Astarte-Anat".
Her symbols include some symbols of creation, a bouquet of lotus flowers in one hand and a snake in the other.
