is this a good thing or a bad thing
You know I honestly can’t say, I appreciate what they were designed to be used for, but not the whole use and misuse of them by people who potentially didn’t need them and how they got them banned in classrooms so now the people who originally needed them can’t use them. It’s the idea that a tool used for people to stim with was taken by people who, sometimes, look down on non-neurotypical people and popularized fidget spinners to the point that you can buy them at gas stations. People who need to use stim toys like fidget spinners now have greater access to them, but at the potential cost that they cannot use them in settings that they were originally intended for.
It would be nice to extend them over to other countries, as I am currently in New Zealand and haven’t seen any personally, as they are helpful, but maybe not to the extent that America did. It was a good awareness of issues and helped normalized the idea of public stiming with ‘toys’ but students who need to stim shouldn’t be punished by those who just want to be distracted due to boredom
