new tennis fan here! I do in fact care about more than sincaraz but I'm so willing to learn more. so can I ask, some fave ships/ship recs in women's tennis? I find it very easy to hear about a variety of m/m ships but I'd love to know some w/w ships!

im so happy you’re broadening your horizons. okay so this is in NO way a complete list but here’s a few femslash tennis rpf ships that are spectacular <3 i went with a very important one and also two of my personal favorites.
mariaserena (maria sharapova/serena williams)
this is a bit of an oldie but a goodie. a lopsided (VERY LOPSIDED 20-2 to serena) rivalry. basically maria beat serena in the wimby final and girl said NEVER AGAIN. and then yeah. never again. many many incredibly charged moments. including this one where serena SANG to maria at the espys. like an original song. that’s ridiculous. and who can forget this runner up speech. oh and this insane comment from serena. anyway an absolute classic. i wasn’t really a tennis fan at the absolute height of this one so i can’t give as much personal commentary other than. jesus christ they were not normal about anything.
cocoiga (coco gauff/iga swiatek)
both prodigies, iga being coco’s roadblock for so long, coco overcoming iga for the first time and then winning a 1000 and a slam back to back. and just. THAT HEAD TO HEAD. 11-4 to iga, BUT it was literally iga won 7 in straights, coco got a three setter, iga won four more in straights, and then coco won the last three in straights?? imo the most quintessential moments are the roland garros 2022 final (coco’s first slam final, OF COURSE against her) and ESPECIALLY the post match (look in iga’s eyes. idek what to say…) iga’s too! “you will find it and you will be there” just like. wow. AND OF COURSE the 2024 wta finals match. match of all time.

qinwemma (qinwen zheng/emma navarro)
MESSY WOMEN MESSY WOMEN MESSY WOMEN 🙏🙏 first of all the absolute pioneer of this ship is definitely tumblr user fritzes so she is probably great if you want to get deeper into it. but just omgggg. the jist of it is emma won their first match, the junior french open semifinals in 2019. and she made like a big deal about this she talked about it kind of a lot?? and then she loses her next match to qinwen. and then the olympics happen and it’s just. it’s insane. here’s tennis channel’s summary of the beef. “she’s cut throat” “because she lost the match” umm???? girls being petty. love to see it.

yeah it goes a lot deeper than the drama this year, and if I have to be insane about it then I'm gonna share it with everyone:
so, this is their full h2h, including juniors:
as you can see, emma only won once, and it was their last ever juniors match at the 2019 junior french open
emma went on to lose the final to leylah pretty badly. from the scoreline of the qinwen/emma match, it was pretty hard fought. now, this is what emma had to say about it (in this interview from 2021):
I repeat, the BEST MOMENT IN HER TENNIS CAREER was beating zheng qinwen. she had made two junior slam semis, played on the main tour, and gone to college for tennis, but this, right along with winning a junior slam in doubles, apparently takes the cake. and yeah, it was 6-4 in the third set. this is fascinating
fast forward to palermo 2023, they played in the quarterfinals and qinwen won and went on to win her first title. I have literally scoured the entire tennis channel and the internet but I can only find like one minute of highlights and nothing from the handshake so I honestly couldn't tell you how that match was. sigh
and then of course came the olympics aka emma's completely unprompted public renouncing (for lack of a better word) of qinwen. and then she doubled down on it at the us open. now, I don't know about you guys but the lack of specificity was giving me major petty exes vibes
and then at the us open they were both having great runs but lost to aryna. and they competed for that final spot at the wta finals (but really both of them should have been there anyways). they are just so fascinating to me and I'm excited to see where this rivalry goes 👀
