I just discovered the frequentative. At 45. As a self-professed word nerd. Is there anything else cool like that that no one else has taught me asking the way?
I’ve made a post about it before but I’m a big fan of this tense

Omg as someone with Adhd who loves languages but had always struggled to learn them I an soooo glad u stumbled across ur blog!! Especially since Spanish, Japanese and Sign are the languages I am focused on learning right now!!
omg that’s such a great coincidence!! I feel like it’s a good language set we get a lot of very different stuff LOL
(For me the Japanese and Spanish are because I’m bad at pronouncing words and they’re (mostly) nice straightforward sounds and for sign I don’t have to pronounce things 🫡)
I read your pinned post where you mentioned trying to learn French and going off of the fact that you know Spanish to gauge the difficulty and friend. Let Me Tell You. French is apparently HARDER to learn than Spanish (I remember being told why, I think it's because there are less cognates and because well. Look at french, just look at it and also fuck you false cognates /lh) and I can honestly agree with that. I know a very small amount of spanish and even I can still glean a meaning when seeing written spanish sometimes. French before I learned it is fucking unintelligible. I am a 21 year old adult who has been studying since middle school and sometimes I still doubt myself and need to call up my best friend wordreference to make sure I actually know what x french word means. At 11 years old I made the executive decision to take the only language my school offered other than Spanish purely to spite my dad, by high school I was in college-level courses and I STILL wrestle with this language after a decade of study. I've met a NATIVE SPEAKER who tells me even he finds the language confusing. There is no winning with french. Anyways, thank you for listening to my insane people ramblings about the french language.
FRENCH IS SO DIFFICULT 😭
(I have nothing else to add to what you said I just agree …. Spanish is so kind to me in comparison. Even Japanese feels easier than French to me. )
I love your blog! Do you have any book recommendations for this type of stuff?
No 😭 not off the top of my head anyway, can't think of any for language learning.
I've heard "Because Internet" is a cool one for modern internet linguistics stuff, but I've only seen excerpts so I couldn't really recommend it.
But if anyone else has any, please reply :)!
how to keep motivation when language learning? i always lose interest a couple weeks after picking up a new language and i feel that starting to happen with my current one too
I try and find low-key ways to keep up the language until I’m feeling more motivated, and also try to incorporate my interests into the language learning.
For example, I’ve not been very motivated with Japanese recently. But I listen to a Japanese podcast to fall asleep, and I’ve been really into Sky : Children of the Light, so I’ve been looking for videos in Japanese about the game. I’ve also been playing stardew valley in Japanese.
I’ve kind of just accepted my interest in actively studying will ebb and flow, and it’s fine if I just learn a bit slower (taking breaks and then coming back to it).
I also find following lots of langblrs or studyblrs can help. Its a pretty supportive community and seeing other peoples excitement makes me more motivated.
Sorry if the answer isn’t super helpful 🙏 it’s super difficult to keep motivated studying for me as well.
Pinned post time because it’s about time I made one.
I AM LITERALLY JUST SOMEONE WHO LIKES LANGUAGES I’m not really qualified for anything just a disclaimer
I don’t tend to reblog stuff like vocab lists, so if you’re looking for that you probably want a different blog. I just post general language fun stuff. I won’t be a great resource for specific languages.
Every post about a specific language is tagged with that language name in English. For example, if you wanted to see every post about Polish just go #Polish.
My originals are tagged as #quack posts , my replies are tagged as #quack replies .
I dip my feet into a lot of languages, but my main ones are Spanish (Advanced), Japanese (long time beginner), Swedish (Beginner)
Learners of any language (or no languages at all) at any level are welcome.

Choral music, spotting a bug I can recognize, planting potatoes by the window, drawing with crayons, and peach soda!
Sorry for seeing this several months late 😓🙏

We did! I forgot about that. It’s funny how Japanese and English both have that connection with shell fish and money. Sand Dollars also come to mind.
