Pure Project Forest of Giants Hazy Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. At 13%, this is basically what you expect it will be -- huge and just bursting with hop notes. I was expecting more of a resinous profile given the name, but this has a ton of berry and tropical fruit up front with quite a bit of juice to the body, too. The alcohol never pokes out, but it's clear it is there behind the fruit, and this finishes weirdly smooth and drinkable.
El Segundo Lost in the Mail Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. On par with some of the best big West Coast IPAs -- bursting with lots of citrus, light tropical fruit, pine, and resinous notes in the body too. Yeah the alcohol burn is here along with some of the bitterness, but there's quite a bit of malt sweetness to help balance mid-body and make this palatable.
Pure Project's Known Anomaly Hazy Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. This is stupidly big with a ton of tropical candy-like fruit in the nose and some hints of alcohol and bigness behind it. While there's a ton of sweetness up front to balance the 13%, this is big and somehow even more balanced than many triple/quad IPAs in a more traditional West Coast style. Really changes a bit as it warms with some more earthy and resinous notes, too.
El Segundo Nuclear Power Plant Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. One the one hand, this is stupid, on the other, I kind of love it. At 13.2%, they kept the hops incredibly aggressive and bitter, so the finish is incredibly aggressive between the booze and the hops. But the body has a lot of sweetness to balance to it mid-body, so it's not completely out of balance. It works very well for something this big, which is surprising, and without a massively malty middle to manage it.
Pure Project Atmospheric Disturbance Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. At 13%, most IPAs are completely over the top and unbalanced. This is somehow not. Absolutely tons of tropical fruit and white wine-like notes and candy-like sweetness, and then plenty of bitterness to back it up alongside the booze. Very balanced, very drinkable, and actually quite unique.
Pure Project Quad Dust Hazy Quadruple IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Yeah yeah, this is kind of stupid, but it's really good. The 13% manages to stay relatively hidden despite the size, and there's just a ton of tropical fruit and citrus in the nose. Quite soft on the palate and while you can tell it's big, you might mistake it for something quite a bit smaller, as it finishes quite smooth.
Moylan’s Hop Craic Quadruple IPA (Thanks, John!). A 3 of 4. Had this on cask a few years ago, and wasn’t a gigantic fan. This, however, is quite good. This is more than just a hop bomb - the orange body with some sticky lacing looks great, and it carries the necessary caramel malt sweetness up front to balance this out quite a bit. Obviously, very, very bitter up front - mostly of the citrus and tropical variety. Some more resinous bitterness in the finish, but this is definitely on the brighter side of IPAs - and not incredibly chewy of a body. More oily and juicy than thick. Definitely worth trying.
