Another pure white quail egg !
Ordered some celadon quail (coturnix quail but they lay blue eggs!) from Alchemist Farms and got to go on a nice drive through California wine country to pick them up from the sweetest little farm stand. I already have one celadon hen from a local breeder but I’m very excited to have more blue eggs very soon!

(and bonus blurry Kiara)
We got this tiny egg the day after a giant double yolk monstrosity and I expected it to have no yolk at all but instead was gifted with the tiniest yolk imaginable
In other quail news though I went into lockdown this morning with the batch of eggs I’m incubating and I’m starting to see a little movement and rocking from some of the eggs!
This is my first time incubating so I’m a little nervous but it seems to be going well thankfully
This is the only egg I’ve ever gotten that’s almost entirely white
It looks like a tiny chicken laid it instead of a quail
We’ve been having problems with rats in the quail coop, getting in and eating the food but generally not doing too much damage.
But then we tried blocking up the place they were getting in and I guess we blocked off their easier food supply because yesterday they got in and killed and mostly ate one of the little ones that were just put outside. We tried better rat-proofing it and they haven’t gotten back in but we didn’t catch any in the traps we set so the battle continues.
