Ordered some celadon quail (coturnix quail but they lay blue eggs!) from Alchemist Farms and got to go on a nice drive through California wine country to pick them up from the sweetest little farm stand. I already have one celadon hen from a local breeder but I’m very excited to have more blue eggs very soon!
I've had quail for a few years now, and this was a first!
They are terrified of me even though all I do is bring them fresh water and tasty treats, so they're always getting spooked and trying to fly away. 🙄
If I don't have veggie scraps ready to go, I'll just clothespin a few lettuce leaves to inside of the cage. The girlies go crazy for lettuce!
I had one bird left from the previous summer, so I wanted a few more for eggs and for eating my veggie scraps.
The other three aren't laying again yet, but they were also the ones fighting over the winter, so we'll see what happens :/
