Idk if anyone else has thought about this, I just know I have cuz I'm big on names and their meanings when I write stuff. But like...for the Herbert West is Trans headcanon...how do we think he chose the name "Herbert "?

Like why did he choose that name? Was it a family name? Did he admire another scientist with that name and just sorta yoinked it for himself? Did his dead name begin with an H? I can't quite decide in my head.

I mean I know how I chose my name, (I'm non binary, which has its own discourse on whether that qualifies as trans or not, but I digress), nobody actually LISTENED to me when I told them my given name, and then as I started to figure out who I was I thought I want to go by something else cuz this doesn't fit me. And I liked my middle name but didn't feel like it fit me either, so I just use my first two initials:

RJ

I can't decide if Herbie would just go with a simple explanation like that, or if he'd have some big brain backstory that he only ever mentioned to Dan in passing once or has never told anyone.
