In Everything but Money Quality Will Always Beat Quantity
Your quality of life is dependent upon the quality of your thoughts and the people in your life, not the amount of money in your bank account or theirs for that matter.

When I can notice the quality is better on things I put more time and effort into I wonder if my client/boss notices it.
Quality or Quantity? The mathematics of investment shopping.

Don't get me wrong, social networking is great. It's free, it's easy to use, but isn't it getting to a point where enough is enough?
Granted I'm new to marketing myself as a photographer, but why is there such an influx of these self marketing websites? Take Facebook for example, I was extremely hesitant in creating a Facebook page and making a Facebook presence for myself. Facebook was my place, my own little world where I could almost relax, now I just feel like it's another burden. How about this new one, pinterest? What do we think of that? Does anyone genuinely feel it's the same old: beautiful, interesting, inspiring, thought provoking, pieces of work being recycled, coupled with new releases of media bound to be found on every other site anyway?
To me, social media marketing is starting to cross the line between quality over quantity; we are focusing on increasing the quantity of our work and of our recipients and not the quality of our work.
To those photographers, designers, even writers out there, hands up if you can safely say that you now find yourself spending more time 'marketing' online than what you do in person; or even actually creating the work to be marketed?
As a photographer I believe I can no longer allow my images to express their meaning and for them to have the impact I originally intended them to give and the way our predecessor's used to. Gallery owners, magazine editors, potentials buyers, every client out there would be the first port of call for making your images public and all they would see is a portfolio, or a selection of final prints. Not only did this small quantity of work result in a higher quality of work, but it also stopped your work from devaluing. Less is more right?
I guess we all work differently.
Yes yes, the cynics among us will tell me that we have to market more than we create, but do we? Yes it's a modern world, but surely creating spectacular images that speak for themselves is more resourceful than marketing work pushed out once a day for some of us?
How do you work and why?
Ps. Please note the aim of this is to provoke discussion and not preach my beliefs.
Pss. My views constantly change but I guess most of this stands...
Psss. your thoughts are more than appreciated.
