day and night cycles blended nearly seamlessly into one on gorse. perhaps some rotations, the sky would lighten slightly in tinge as the planet moved further or closer to the sun, wobbling on its axis, but the ever present darkness never lifted. mostly, that shift varied the temperature warmer or cooler for a few months, producing the approximation of seasons.
however, as much as she wondered what it might be like to live on a planet where the days are flooded in light, the shadows were her friends. if a meeting, even something far more frivolous, held her back until curfew, while not ideal, a careful picking, remaining in the darker corners, led to a safe passage home.
rarely did she spot anyone else other than a distant trooper, and when such a crossing of paths occurred, typically, they both simply acted as if the other did not exist. such nuances hardly existed if something were to disrupt them… and a man, unknown to her, but so clearly unfamiliar with his surroundings certainly proved that.
❝ you alright there? ❞ voice subdued, careful, kaatje schooled her features into an obvious expression of concern. ❝ do you know where you’re headed? ❞
