Those who've followed me for a while may remember Hamlet passed away in early November, and this summer I finally started feeling ready to look for a new dog. I browsed various rescues in my area, and after briefly fostering another dog who unfortunately ended up aggressive towards children, I met and adopted Bianca.
She's a one-year-old husky mix from a local humane society. She was found on the street with an older full-blood husky, and she was in the shelter about a month before I brought her home on May 20. She's great with kids (including Jade's two, who were the ones the previous foster snapped at), and is super patient and unexpectedly fearless.
She is, of course, named after Taming of the Shrew's Bianca for her sweet and gentle temperament. The relationship to Varric's Bianca is a welcome coincidence, but one I'm quite fond of. <3
Obedience is...we'll say improving, but luckily I'm still more stubborn than she is, ahaha. Sit, lie down, and stay are pretty locked in as concepts, but execution while excited is definitely a work in progress. I'm doing a six-week in-home obedience class that's been helpful for both of us, since it's been 13 years since I trained a young dog. The biggest current issues are jumping on me during play & digging in the yard, though that's not been quite as bad lately. I do still have a handful of basketball-sized pits I need to fill in to avoid twisted ankles.
She loves chewing on sticks & playing fetch. She killed her first bird today and has only escaped the fence twice. She'll be sticking around a long time, Lord willing, so expect more pictures to come. <3
