Well, hi, hello, and welcome! I write fic, occasionally maul a sketchbook, and am also an optometrist. My current fandoms are Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect, though I do dabble in a number of book series. I can be found pretty much everywhere on the internet as loquaciousquark. Askbox is always open for prompt ideas and general character appreciation. me, assembling a new storage bench out on the back deck: man, i wonder if that expensive anti-mosquito device i bought is actually doing anything, i bet i just wasted my money
me: finishes assembly, turns the device off, decides to play with the dog a few minutes more
Propaganda: The Spirit of Adventure is a really fun look into other kinds of spirits that manifest around different people. She knows the answer, but she needs mortals to experience the whole adventure for themselves.
vs. Holden
Propaganda: His interactions with Mila are the absolute cutest! He's such a kind and loving dad.
Adventure! deserves this vote for having canon punctuation in her name. Holden is a nice guy, sure, but is he ¡exciting!? Does he tell me the real treasure was the journey? No!
I commissioned this piece from the unbelievably talented Hotwe, who is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, deliberate artists I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I cannot express how grateful I am for the kindness shown towards my imaginary dolls at every step of this process. Thank you! <3
This is a paired piece to this one, also by Hotwe, which I commissioned immediately after finishing Inquisition for the first time. Once I finished Veilguard and filled out how the story ends for these two, I knew I desperately wanted the other half of this diptych.
Close-ups and lengthy notes on the incorporated symbolism are below the cut.
Where the first piece was much more somber and determined, I really wanted this moment to feel triumphant (if not unreservedly happy). These are two people at the end of a long war with each other, and moving forward doesn't mean erasing the road before.
Some notes in no particular order:
Solas's hands are now open, releasing the hard and inflexible grip he had in the original piece
The constellation is Fervenial, the Oak, for its associated concept of Vir Tanadhal: "fly straight and don't waver, bend but never break, and the idea of balance. ...The imagery of the hunter (Adahla) metaphorically striking like a bolt on Solas' plans and forcing a reframing of the lightning/smite-y/fate concept of Fulmenos into a concept of balance and growth/organic/spring" - straight from the artist's massive brain
(I've written about why constellations & stars, especially Fulmenos, are important to them here)
Red embrium leaves for healing
Spring growth for seasonal change
Solas, being pushed forward by the strong wind behind him, is finally able to stop thanks to Adahla's pressure
Adahla's dress is inspired by this statue (San Joaquín, Santa Ana y la Virgen Niña by Juan Alonso Villabrille y Ron), but has been reworked with Dragon Age motifs and emblems
The gold vines are from my post-Veilguard fic for them, The Heart Where I Have Roots
I plan to do one more post with both of these pieces together as soon as I can; their journey's been messy to the max, but it honestly brings me so much joy to know they've landed somewhere like this, and I'm again so thankful to Hotwe for bringing that ended war to life.
surely it speaks well of Astarion if he's like if someone took a Solas and kicked all the Wulbren out of him...?
I've been waffling over how well anyone can really speak about Astarion. Sure, he might be petty, vindictive, and possessed of a streak of cruelty broad enough to make a jailer quail, but oh, how he makes me laugh.
you must let your god of lies transform into a big wolf regularly! if you do not have the space, I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have a fen'harel. I know it's "he who hunts alone" but he still needs ROOM to hunt alone...
if a dread wolf is denied puppy time for too long, you may find him hoarding knives. this is a sign of distress!! he is trying to accommodate his lack of fangs and claws!!
Don't forget to supply your dread wolf with the appropriate enrichment toys!
❌ Archdemons are NEVER appropriate toys for your dread wolf. What may look like play-wrestling is actually your dread wolf in extreme distress, possibly even in danger. If your dread wolf tries to declare himself a god after biting an archdemon, you need to get him checked out immediately!
❌ Orbs of Destruction are ONLY appropriate to be played with under supervision, and they should never be shared with others. Monitor your dread wolf with his Orb, and intervene BEFORE he tries to tear a hole in the Veil, NOT AFTER.
✅Worms on a String are GREAT toys! Playing with a worm on a string fulfills many of the same needs that lead a fen'harel to tear apart the Veil, and a worm is a much safer, non-destructive alternative. Your dread wolf will LOVE his worm on a string!
#your dread wolf may give you the big wet eyes if you have to separate him from his orb#and there's so many big wet eyes!!#but don't fall for it! instead provide alternatives and make sure he knows it's a temporary separation#and not a punishment!#this is a great time to introduce a dread wolf to the worm on a string!#it will remind him of his fundamental nature and is a great form of enrichment when he needs to be separated from his orb for a time!
@broodwoof how dare you hide this comedy gold in the tags :D
i've never played dragon age and don't know anything about it but what i do know is that that solas guy looks exactly like if astarion and wulbren bongle had a baby

I've been working on fleshing out all the Veilguard stub articles on the Dragon Age Wiki for several months, and even after however many tens of thousands of words, this is still the funniest thing I've been able to add.
The eye doctor is the most fun doctor you can go to. They never steal your blood. They never make you get naked and put on a paper dress. They're just like, "Can you see these letters? It's fine if you can't, we can fix that." And they don't even spell anything.
