Exactly! I think it has everything to do with community- there’s belonging implied in quarry-speech. It’s easier to quarry-speak when shared memories are stronger, which means you need a shared past, to create those memories, which implies a bond to the person you're speaking to. The idea of belonging so deeply somewhere that you wouldn’t even need verbalization, just a series of mental/emotional impressions, is a beautiful kind of thing. And. Eh. I also just wish I could quarry-speak. :)

and actually, now i’m kinda getting tumblr!feels, because i think that’s partially why i love the dialect of english tumblr is developing; it’s not entirely in words, much of what we say is conveyed through pictures — some moving, some still — and you can make references to things that only someone who frequents particular areas of tumblr will understand, in ways that might sound utterly cryptic to those who follow only, say, food blogs, or education-related blogs, or business-related blogs, or what-have-you, but that still make perfect sense to this vast community of people who might never have had contact, and i just
