What I learned during this semester was making lemon cake, lemon bars, black bean burgers, vegetable lo mein, and chocolate cake. The lemon cake we made was all about performance. Everyone had to make their own and have it ready on time. It was warm and delicious. Secondly, I made some lemon bars on my own, which was easy and simple. For the crust, I greased a 9 by 13 inch pan with Pam. I stirred together the flour, sugar, and salt. I added the butter to the bowl and used a pastry cutter to cut it all together until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Then I press into the prepared pan and baked until golden around the edges for about 20 minutes.
For the filling, I stirred together the sugar and flour. I cracked in the eggs and used a wire whisk to combine. I added the lemon juice and mixed until combined. I poured over the crust and baked for about 20 minutes. I let it cool in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours, then sifted in the powdered sugar over the top before cutting into squares. Thirdly, I was assigned to make black bean burgers with a partner while someone else made the vegetable lo mein. Lastly, everyone had to make their own chocolate cake. This was the hardest dessert I had to make. I hade to make sure the chocolate stay melted and not stick to the bowl.
