I asked a songwriter friend of mine for advice on writer’s block (specifically in the case where I was stuck with one good line and nothing to fill in around it), and he said it was a procedural issue and would get better with practice, said that he approaches it by thinking of what logically needs to happen in a beginning, middle, and end of the storyline and letting that propel him through. He likened it to rhetoric in an essay as well for less ‘story-driven’ ideas.
Basically, it boiled down to telling me, someone known to forget to break down projects into approachable tasks, “you have to figure out what you’re trying to say, and then say it”
I can’t believe a gifted kid teacher, who works with students exactly like me all the time, has called me out like this
