hello! not sure if you’ve read jjk 148 but if you have—

the line abt naoya prev. bullying maki made me think of one of your naoya & toji fics—the one abt him leaving; idr which that was—& the relation b/w the way you set up naoya to look up to toji in ur fics & then obv derision @ maki (for more than lack of ct but also for that) lol. have u any thoughts on that/ch148? 🤔

HIII THIS IS SO INSANELY LATE BECAUSE I KEPT GETTING SLAMMED BY WORK AND THEN FINALS SEASON STARTED AND THEN ETC. ETC. ETC. AND I KEPT LOOKING AT THIS ASK FORLORNLY AND THINKING ABOUT IT AND THEN NOT HAVING TIME TO ANSWER IT DHSVGHFDJK

(Oh, vague spoilers for JJK148-151 below the cut!)

The moment 148 came out--where I ignored all the great semi-political intrigue and worldbuilding scraps LOL--and now. with 151 drop. good lord I feel only vindication. I feel the soulbond between myself and Akutami strengthening with every passing moment.

I wish I had something like . intellectual or insightful to say about the implications towards their dynamic or anything like that aside from LOOL I was right xx the absolute desperation to be special (not only in general but to Toji in particular..!)... the necessary concessions and the little qualifications Naoya makes to self affirm... the externalization of insecurity (which is obviously like. super insidious and simply impermissible in Naoya's little waka-sama entitlement brain) onto Maki is really just the icing good lord... Thank you Akutami... Man.. For such a piece of garbage Naoya's writing is soooo (head in hands)

I suppose that's the short of it djhfjd since there is just so much Feeling to untangle esp. with the injection of the like? rigid scaffold for the dynamics as they're meant to exist under Zen'in structure and then the ways they actually manifest argh argh too many words. I think my main point is: wow I love being right and this manga is insane. I'm just going to ignore everything else going on.

39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I’m really proud of the way I convey feelings, not in small part because I think about it a great deal! I really do try to my best to get into the character’s head portray what they’re thinking and feeling and why they do the things they do (or don’t).  I put a lot of work into translating those reasons into words that people can read, whether it be through words or actions (or lack thereof), and I do a pretty damn good job if I can say so myself.

44. Rant about something writing related.

I love and hate doing research. It is fun and also the worst thing. I’m never going to not do research, because I want to keep things accurate but FUCK. Just recently I had to constantly pause writing a chapter in order to reference my notes and look something up I hadn’t thought of and then when the things I find are inconsistent? I throw hands. I’m going to break my laptop over my knee.

ngl my interest in this series is hanging on by a tread and that thread is called the todoroki family subplot.... that being said everything abt has been so egregiously mishandled that i just. cannot think abt it for more than 2 seconds without dissolving into rage.

i really enjoyed the lil LoV subplot about shigaraki and co taking on the meta liberation army??? they were a surprisingly charming team, and i liked how the arc expanded on the some wouldbuilding loose ends/questions that had been bothering me for a while.

Did you reread anything? What?

Many things, but what stands out is (as always) The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, my favorite book which is always so rewarding on every reread. I used to not understand how people could reread books all the time, because there’s just so much else to read, and doesn’t it get boring? Coldtown never gets boring.

What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?

I finally got around to reading Wicked, and I am genuinely shocked it is not more famous as a book. I still haven’t seen the musical, but people, why are we not flocking about the book?? Great read; very rewarding for the page count. 

Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?

I read Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and it was a wonderful read. I can completely understand why it won so many awards... I also liked his book Flight, and I have his autobiography on my shelf just waiting for me to read it. His writing style for teens absolutely inspires me.

hey! had a quick q about the difference b/w the main zine & the side zine re: writing pieces; as i'm understanding it, the main zine is for non-fic writing (interviews, stats?) for summer olympic sports animanga, right? but (gen) fic is allowed for the side zine, as well as non-summer olympic sports animanga... then are summer olympic sports animanga allowed in the side zine (or will there be no summer olympic sports animanga fic at all)? and is the side zine guaranteed to occur?

We have now changed our requirements and such - the main zine now may include fics, along with non-fics! Thus, we will be keeping all Summer Olympics sports animanga content in the main zine, whilst the side zine will be any non-Summer Olympic sports animanga. 

So long as there are enough contributors, the side zine will definitely occur!
