Quasar’s Re Grand Opening
I haven’t been able to write due to a lot going on, but last few weeks have been proven to be eventful.. Quasars closed at the end of March and for just over two months (due to COVID19) they were closed. Luckily they were able to stay alive during this time-even with their closures.
But they made use of their time during “quarantine.”
For those who are not familiar with Corpus Christi or even Quasar’s, it is a small local arcade. My friend TJ also known as Aydin in his artist form, introduced me to this place. When I first walked in there several months ago, I said the place “reeked of nostalgia” and “reminded me of the arcade in Wreck It Ralph.”
Quasar’s has all kinds of games-the popular games from the 80s and 90s, some modern ones, some racing games, some pinball games-both old school and modern-and the best part of about Quasar’s? it’s pretty cheap. S20 gets you 100 tokens and the games vary from one token to four tokens. I recommend getting the twenty dollars’ worth-because even if you don’t run out that first time, you will be back, believe me. Quasar’s is open from 4 pm to midnight Sunday thru Thursday. And Friday and Saturday they are open until two a.m.
When Quasar’s closed down, they added more games, added an extra room, to allow for more people, and painted the place some more. They were supposed to open two weeks ago, but due to delays, they were unable to open until this past weekend. So my friend TJ and I made the plans to come back on opening day. I decided since I was doing Elsa (from Frozen) cosplay and truthfully, besides two home shows and one Facebook live show for the court, I hardly dressed up or did drag. So, I said, “You know what? It’s the grand re-opening. I’m going to dress as Elsa and if people don’t like they can kiss my butt.” Yes, I am a plus size girl and no Elsa isn’t ‘plus’ but you can be Elsa and not be skinny. I’m a firm believer that anyone can do drag or cosplay. I had plan to wear the ice dress I ordered from Australia, but it has yet to come in as of now. I had ordered the one I wore that night previously, but the sleeves did not fit my arms. So instead, my drag sister, Jackie, cut them off and I wore a long sleeve white shirt as my ‘long sleeves.’ I had ordered a long-sleeved leotard with stones to wear underneath the dress, but that also failed to arrive on time. (Blame Covid and the mail, as I’d ordered that last week). I also had recent had received a lace front braid wig for Elsa to replace the cheap cosplay one I ordered off eBay (it did not fit my head and quality was not good). My drag sister helped me get my hair done and after everything I headed out at 6 pm, and arrived at Quasar’s at 630 pm. My favorite games are Miss Pac Man Guitar Hero, some of the pinball games and I enjoy watch my friend TJ slay at DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). I am so glad Quasar’s is back in business and hope they continue to be. One other thing you are allowed to do there is bring your own beer (I bring my Smirnoff wine coolers). You can only bring one bottle in at a time (meaning drink), but I leave my other drinks in the car. You can bring water/soda as well, and you are not “required to buy from the vending machine.” They do have vending machines, but you can use token or quarters, if you want to. It’s all good there. It was fun to Cosplay at Quasars because I didn’t get to do that when they were open before, but everyone was nice to me,and some people played along-which made cosplay even more fun. I was there until about 1 am, and it was a long day. We DID stop for Whataburger at one point to eat because we actually got hungry. We came back for a bit more then I went home.
Here are some pictures of my latest cosplay attempt as Elsa the ice queen. And yes I’ll be writing more of my USofA pageant stories too, this was just something I thought the need to write.
