A British Transport Police vehicle and stewards responsible for managing crowds watching the passage of the coffin of Queen Elizabeth the Second along the A40 from RAF Northolt to Buckingham Palace. Pedestrian bridges and subways on the route were closed and people watched from the side of the road or from houses. I didn't manage to reach Greenford in time to see it there, I had a surprisingly clear view from a 95 bus which stopped just before the Medway underpass. For once I did not use my camera to record it, instead I will always have the image etched on my memory, a few seconds of the hearse, its interior lit so that all could see the coffin draped with the Royal Standard, emerging from the tunnel under her image on an advertising screen. Photographers with their long lenses and workmen in hi-vis stood alongside residents of the communities she passed through. It was a rock star moment. I was the idiot clapping on that bus and I don't care who knows it.
