Queenless hive test. This is one quick way to see how the hive reacts to a new queen if you suspect it is #queenless. These poor girls have been without a queen for too long, see how they all naturally march toward her once they smell her pheromone. This hive will be saved and brought back to strength with a new queen. If you have a hive with no eggs and no sealed brood, it means that you will have nothing more than what you have. Each day, your hive will become smaller in number because without emerging brood the older bees will die. If you have no brood at all, sealed or unsealed, then you have an emergency and must get a queen as quickly as possible. Every day counts. Your hive is a mere 30 days away from total collapse. There are many signs and indicators of a queenless hive; no eggs, a loud or noisy hive, a laying worker, excessive drone brood to name a few. Make sure you learn all the indicators of a queenless hive so that you can spot them early and avoid losing your bees.

Hive inspections 4/2

GF 4 still queenless. No eggs, roar. Replaced from Bailey Bee Supply. Fed 3&4, which got less feed last time.

GBF fed all 3.

Next week prioritize feeding GF 1&2 and all P hives. Inspect as well, maybe checkerboard if they’re far enough along.

This is a memory. Of you.

Of how you would walk up to my classroom and fetch me for practice, walking tall and dark, in your uniform, with a handsome grin on your face.

Of how you would ask us to eat out on recess breaks. Palabok. Ice cream. Bet on food, even.

Of how you would call me "Ading Joy" and Trina, "Baby". And Kuya Joel "Mang Jose" and you, "Loida", after your mother.

Of how you joked around Oliver and Lence, even made each cry at least once.

Of how you would play with me queenless, and even then I wouldn't win. I think I beat you just once. Once in my lifetime spent with you.

Of how you looked like on graduation day, with a medal dangling from your neck for being the chess player that you are.

Of my jersey warmer. Until now I haven't figured out who took it, though I have a good enough feeling it was you.

Of how you maintained communication, even after graduation. Your text messages and your chats about chess, and life, and everything in between.

Now, you placed yourself under the holy covers of the earth. And I would always remember you, Kuya Rodly, jolly, dark and between us, you are the chess king. Even as I play queenless, it will be you I remember. I love you. And will miss you forever.
