Coldest Winter || Hera & Artemis

Exhaustion. That was the only thing Kat felt by this point. Betraying her family, killing her brother, dragging her half dead best friend through the woods, and then spending hours on a plane crossing the pond really took a lot out of her. She had already been through the whole reuniting process with the few people she cared about. Kat was lucky. She didn’t have to play a woman scorned by her closest friends since the people outed as ICHOR agents weren’t necessarily people she knew that well. Except for Ody. He was a surprise for sure, but it was his surrender to Olympus which surprised her. Whatever made him switch sides, realize he was in the wrong, was what made her wonder what was going through his head that day. It made the young girl think if maybe she’d be in his shoes one day. Maybe soon.
Kat couldn’t pretend anymore. Once they arrived at the new facility in London it was like everyone went into a frenzy. Half were wounded and needed urgent care. The other half looked as if they were an AA meeting waiting to happen. Probably a great synopsis for primetime entertainment. But it only proved to be stressful for her. She only had a few scratches here and there, and the young girl wasn’t prone to drinking. So with being one of the only sober beings in the building, she found herself exploring. And just like the very first day she first arrived at Mt. Olympus, Kat somehow ended on the roof.
The nostalgia chewed at her more than the guilt. A bottle of bourbon sat next to her untouched, more of a gift for her incoming guest. After arriving on the rooftop she felt like sharing the moment with someone she had many times before. When she was first initiated and alone just finding her way, a fiery redhead named Hera found her and asked why she’d rather spend her time alone, on top of a building with an unopened bottle of bourbon, rather than settling in and getting to know her soon to be team mates. To this day Kat still remembers her answer.
‘To be closer to the stars.’
And she also remembered Hera’s incredulous look in response. So that became their relationship. They’d meet from time to time, on the roof. Kat, there to talk and just breathe for awhile, while Hera drank to deal with Kat talking. It was unique and something she didn’t want to die, so she texted her and told her to meet her. If there was one thing Kat knew, it was how Hera dealt with things, and after these past few days she figured the woman could use a drink while enjoying a nice view.
The petite girl didn’t have to wait much longer before she heard the door open behind her. Sighing, she automatically pushed the bottle in her direction as she sat down next to her. “I don’t know if I like this view less or more. There was something about the mountains...” Kat mused. “The city..it’s vibrant. Can’t really see the stars though.”
