It's not just about shaking asses. The Queens hold a special place for me. Often times reduced to their painted faces, they represent a fearlessness that I often see reflected in the women I call my sisters. We "paint up" to honor them and to remind folks that Fela was not alone. When the government came for him, this women were also part of the sweep. They were also targeted.
