Queensway Connection Update

With the submission deadline for the Queensway Connection design competition just around the corner we thought we’d give you an update on what we’ve been working on so far. FULL DISCLOSURE - We are not posting images of our actual design because 1) It’s going to be a surprise and 2) We don’t want you to steal them. Don’t worry, the suspense will end after January 12th, when the submissions are due!

The High Line - New York

Ground-lighting undulates through the park just like the waves of gorgeous plants. A win. 

LED Staircase

We love the way these energy-friendly LED's highlight the architecture of the space. 

Bike Ramp-Stair Combo

For larger populations of cyclists this combo allows for more traffic flow.

Zigzag Stair Ramp

A clever and enticing combination of stairs and ramps. Don't you just want dance up and down them like you're Frank Sinatra? We do.

Simple, effective way to get your bike from point A to B.

It's rad. We want it in yellow - everywhere.

Staghorn Takes on the Queensway Connection Competition

Ever wondered what landscape design professionals do during the winter? Besides beginning the planning and design phases of projects, we also sign up for some good o’l fashioned, red-blooded competitions. Luckily, back in the summer an architect friend of ours told us about an upcoming competition called The Queensway Connection hosted by ENYA. In a nutshell the project space is comparable to the High Line - it’s the abandoned elevated rail tracks of the former LIRR line to Rockaway Beach - but in a very different context and with different objectives. It’s Staghorn’s first design competition and we can’t wait to get started!

Here are some photos we took of the area on our first site visit.

Currently, the area is a hodgepodge of auto-repair garages, an elementary school and small, mom&pop shops. 

Kat stumbles upon a rogue gang of hoses, and narrowly escapes tripping.
