I feel like people (probably subconsciously) think of trans/transgender as referring specifically to transitioning. Like the trans is short for transition. My little etymology loving heart can’t take it.
Trans is Latin. Cis is too. They do not refer to movement or change. They are prefixes that mean “across/on the other side” or “on the same side/near side”
So transgender is when your gender is “on the other side” of your biological sex/agab. Weird way of explaining it, and this conception arguably has issues (mostly inferring a binary) but there is so much hate toward trans people because they aren’t transitioning or don’t want to. As if you have to transition to be transgender. Or that transgender means you are changing your gender. The etymology of it means that it is different from your biological situation/agab.
