Bit late, but because it was Día de las Madres and Mother's Day weekend, I finally had an excuse to draw up Tay'kaa's Moms because they've been in my head forever now and needed to be released.
So here they are! Ko D'Ruq and Na'yeli Marr with their baby, Tay'kaa. Drew them in their prime (30s) and will probably draw the older version of Na'yeli that Tay meets another time.
Anywho, I don't think y'all understand how much I love them. I cried like a bitch making this as if it's not my fault they're doomed yuri.
Close-ups and some lore under the cut!
Ko D'ruq is a Devaronian who grew up in the Holy City of Jedha with her parents. They ran a marketplace stall in the city and had been doing so for two generations, so she's quite familiar with the place and planet.
It's in the marketplace that she meets Na'yeli, the two instantly click, and their bond grows from there as they hang out at Ko's parents' store and at school.
Since Na'yeli is expected to marry her own species, Ko suggests they run away and elope. Ko wants to see more of the galaxy, Na'yeli wants to get away from her overbearing parents, and more than anything they want to be together–so Na'yeli agrees to the plan.
Once they get the chance, they run off together, get married and start traveling the galaxy until Na'yeli's health takes a sudden decline and Ko starts to do whatever she can to be able to afford medicine and treatment for Na'yeli.
This leads to her ending up in the Cauldron after from Hutt loan sharks come after her. Since then, Ko's been away from Na'yeli, fighting as a gladiator and trying to pay off those debts.
Na'yeli Marr is a Kessurian from the Kessar System who made the pilgrimage to Jedha with her parents when she was a younger teenager.
Her father is an anthropologist of sorts and is doing field work in Jedha and her mother is a bit of a religious fanatic and works at the Temple. Na'yeli takes after her father though and shadows him, becoming something of an apprentice.
For most of her life she's dealt with health issues (partly why her mom is a religious fanatic) and as she ages, it only gets worse for her - but it doesn't stop her from wanting to live life and travel.
Unfortunately, her parents are very traditional and are waiting for her to get older so they can go back to the Kessur system so she can marry another Kessurian, but Na'yeli doesn't want that and wants to marry Ko.
So when Ko suggests they run away, Na'yeli agrees. Luckily for them, after forming the idea, Na'yeli's father announces a research expedition and as his assistant/apprentice, Na'yeli is allowed to come with. For the expedition group she vouches for Ko and suggests she come along as their muscle and her father agrees. The first chance they get, they steal a shuttle from the expedition trope and go off on their own.
An alternate universe where Tay gets to have both his moms together with him. aka the Modern AU technically because it's a lot less angsty but that's a story for another day
They never expected him, never really talked about kids, but they love him with everything they have, and Tay loves them with everything he is.
