okay but
aromantic asexual steve rogers
aro ace Steve who doesn’t quite get why Bucky is so enamoured with all these girls. He tried to do the romance thing the first couple times Bucky dragged him on these double dates, but he eventually gave up and decided he must be broken or something. Now when they don’t ignore him for Bucky he simply tries to make friends with them. He still regularly meets with one to discuss art tips and where to find cheap art supplies.
aro ace Steve who doesn’t understand why gay people just avoid doing anything, especially in a city like New York. He doesn’t have anything against them, and doesn’t care who they like, he just thinks it’s stupid that they try and do stuff in a big mean city like this.
aro ace Steve being told that his low libido is because of all his health issues, but Steve can’t help but think it’s not just that, and if that’s the reason he doesn’t like looking at pretty dames, why doesn’t he understand romance either?
aro ace Steve meeting Peggy ad respecting her so much for standing up to the jerks. He knows most of the camp thinks he’s sweet on her, but really he just holds her in such high regard that he’s tripping over himself trying to talk to her.
aro ace Steve working with the showgirls who absolutely love him because he doesn’t make lewd comments about their uniforms, and he isn’t insulted by the fact that they just want to focus on doing they’re jobs. A few of them make offers, but he politely turns them down and treats them no different.
aro ace Steve going back and going to save Bucky, and on the way he talks with Peggy. He tries to ask about her and Howard, but that kind of talk always makes him blush and stammer so he blurts out the first thing that pops into his head and he knows that fondue is food but he couldn’t think of anything else to call it that wouldn’t make him feel really weird and he just wanted to know if Peggy and Howard were seeing each other dang it.
aro ace Steve being kissed by that girl and he wants to get away but he’s just frozen and he can’t move and he doesn’t like it but he doesn’t want to hurt her by shoving her away or cause a commotion so with his arms half way raised to push her away he freezes and hopes she’ll stop when she notices he’s not responding. Thankfully Peggy walks in but then she assumes all the wrong things and he still doesn’t understand why people like kissing.
aro ace Steve working with the Howling Commandos and when they have downtime they start talking about their girls. It sounds sweet but he still doesn’t understand what they’re feeling and he’s never felt it himself so he just sits there and listens, glad that this distracts them and makes them happy. But then someone insinuates that there’s something between him and Peggy, and he just laughs it off because he certainly doesn’t look at her as anything but a friend and doesn’t think she does either. Sure he’s got a picture of her in his compass but she’s the only friend he doesn’t see when the Commandos are off on missions, and it’s a good art reference and he doesn’t understand why having a picture of someone means you’re in love with them.
aro ace Steve losing Bucky and wondering if this is what people mean when they say they’re heartbroken, because he feels like he just can’t go on without him. This is so much worse than when his Ma died, and he knows heartbroken is usually a term for couples but how can the hurt possibly be worse than this, just because two people love each other different.
aro ace Steve about to jump onto the plane after Schmidt when Peggy yells “wait” and so he leans in thinking she’s going to give him advice when she kisses him and again he freezes because he thought they were friends and nothing more why would she kiss him and he barely hears her next words when she pulls away. He’s shocked out of it by Colonel Phillips, and then he’s facing Schmidt and
aro ace Steve feeling horrible that he’s about to leave his friends behind, but feeling a cowardly happiness that he doesn’t have to try and deal with Peggy and her kiss and maybe now he’ll get to go see Bucky again.
aro ace Steve waking up 70 years in the future, and again they’re attributing his low libido to other things, this time depression and PTSD, and Steve still not thinking that’s the whole story and still not understanding romance.
aro ace Steve turning down every girl Natasha tries to recommend him because he doesn’t want or need anybody, never has, and he’s already accepted that something in him is so broken that the serum couldn’t fix it.
aro ace Steve kissing Natasha to avoid Rumlow, and just trying to focus on the fact that it’s to stay alive, not on the ice cold feeling inside of him that is absolutely done with people kissing him. When they’re walking off the escalator she asks if he’s still uncomfortable with public displays of affection, and he says it’s not the word he’d use and leaves it at that, because he doesn’t feel the need to tell her that he now feels frozen and wrong and he doesn’t know how to describe the feeling when it’s confirmed that you’re broken.
aro ace Steve seeing Peggy in the nightmare induced by the Maximoff girl, while part of the fear stems from the idea of there being nothing to fight for, another part is the fact that if there’s no fighting for him to do people are going to expect him to settle down with some girl and he just can’t.
aro ace Steve telling Tony that the settling down thing just isn’t for him, because while it’s partly true, it’s mostly just the fact that he can’t deal with people expecting him to find someone, and if he’s always a soldier they won’t expect that of him.
aro ace Steve setting up a twitter at Tony’s behest, and starts talking with people and answering their questions. He really likes being able to communicate with people, and share his own views on America and fix the idea that people seem to have of him holding all these conservative views.
aro ace Steve migrating to tumblr as a way to see more of the world and understand more about society and pop culture. While he’s scrolling through his ‘dash’, he comes across a list of words about orientations and genders. He reads through the entire thing, finding it incredibly useful, but then his entire world jerks to a stop when he sees the words aromantic and asexual.
aro ace Steve feeling something just click, and finally learning that he’s not broken, there are other people like him, other people who don’t love and lust like everyone else seems to. Finally Steve feels like he belongs in this romantic and sexual world.
aro ace Steve posting a picture of the aromantic and asexual flags on his twitter, and when people figure out what they mean, the media blows up. He gets many people calling him a robot, saying that the serum broke something inside of him, or that he just hasn’t tried anything like that yet. But when he reads messages from people thanking him for coming out, for giving them an icon, a person to look at and think if Captain America isn’t broken then maybe I’m not broken either.
aro ace Steve going on talk shows and stuff to try and explain it, but mostly gets people telling him he’s confused or asking about Peggy. He still does it though, trying to help people understand that some people just don’t feel romantic or sexual attraction, and it’s perfectly normal. Eventually things die down though, people either just deciding to ignore it or thinking it was some publicity stunt.
aro ace Steve going to his first pride in NYC wearing green, black, grey, white, and purple, and causing another uproar, and helping others accept who they are. Some people still don’t understand, but others are learning, and he’s getting hundreds of messages on twitter thanking him for giving them courage.
Aro Ace Steve being mostly accepted by SHIELD and the Avengers. Some of them don’t understand (Tony) but they don’t care about it either so it’s all fine. Natasha does stop trying to set him up though, which he is thankful for.
Aro Ace Steve Rogers!
