What does your pride look like? Pride isn’t rainbow flags & sidewalks. Pride isn’t LGBT when all you really mean is L and G. Pride is black, brown, and indigenous fists in the air. It’s turning up the volume on your headphones & walking quicker because men harass you on the street & tell you to smile. It’s laughing nervously in response to “Do you have a boyfriend?” It’s making out with a girl in public & being hyper vigilant because what if everyone is really homophobic?! It’s being called an abomination at your first pride parade for holding hands with your girlfriend. It’s wondering if you should tell this new friend if you’re (super) gay or not. It’s me asking what your politics are like before we get to know each other. It’s feeling alone with your straight friends wondering if they’ll ever get it and take genuine interest in radical & anti-oppression politics (I mean, will you?). It’s holding space for each other because brown & black Latinx folks were murdered in Florida and so many other places unspoken. It’s me disappointed in straight people for not understanding the everyday ache & reality of my community. It’s crying because shit feels really scary, and you’re just trying to walk home. It’s cooking / eating / laughing / talking / being with other QT BIPOC because you’re my favorite people, you’re the only people, and you get it. It’s being a baby queer & taking Queer 101 senior year of college because you want to understand what everything means. It’s avoiding downtown parades & “gay” districts because there’s no space for a brown queer femme. It’s imagining more than marriage. It’s spitting in the face of racism, antiblackness, colorism, homo / queerphobia, transphobia, cissexism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, ableism, fatphobia, femmephobia, slut shaming, rape culture, misogyny, classism, capitalism, microaggressions & major aggressions, and the prison / medical industrial complexes. It’s checking yourself for this shit because I see your struggle, and I want and am actively trying & working to do better for you 24/7. Never make assumptions. Be a good person. Hold each other accountable, in dark moments, and to the light. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #queertears (at Cal Anderson Park)
Persona challenges the regime of heterosexuality and its norms primarily through the performance of lesbian desire between Alma (Bibi Andersson) and Elisabet (Liv Ullmann). […] For what is needed to queer Persona is not yet another rehash of the film as heterotopic Oedipal drama, but a transgressive reading from the point of view of lesbian spectatorship, feminist spectatorship, and authorial spectator ship.
Gwendolyn Audrey Foster, Ingmar Bergman’s Persona.

The struggle is not accepting Lena Headey's perfection; the struggle is accepting that we aren't dating.
