Gilles Deleuze.
the whole point of girls doing the not like other girls thing is basically them believing that the girls around them lack an interior life. they were raised on depictions of women as shallow caricatures and they recognize themselves to be actual people with thoughts and feelings, but instead of drawing the conclusion that these depictions of women are incorrect, they draw the conclusion that those depictions of women are correct and that must mean they're smarter and have more substance than the "average" woman. to exit the not like other girls phase means recognizing that all real life women have the same level of interiority as you do, and that depictions of women in the media as consistently empty headed and frivolous are misogynistic stereotypes not grounded in reality.
i say all this to say that to exit a not like other girls phase does not necessitate taking an interest in "traditionally feminine" ways of dress and makeup, nor does it mean never saying anything negative about the beauty industry
Middle aged women who aren’t very well versed in social media post with a sort of instinctive savant hilariousness that reminds me of the poetry of children who haven’t learned what good poetry sounds like yet
Sorry to break it to you but you literally have to face your fears and slaughter them. Otherwise you will live a small life that you do not want. You literally have to view your biggest fears and attack them head on. You have to fall into the abyss to find your way out. The easy path does not exist. There is no get out of jail free card. You have to allow yourself to die a spiritual death over and over again in order to reinvent yourself into the person you are actually supposed to be. And you have to be painfully honest with yourself and the people around you. It’s horrible but it’s truly the only way.
don’t take my defeatism too seriously I will always begin again and again no matter what
I might sound miserable most of the time but at my core I’m a very hopeful person
there are a NUMBER of folktale Woman-Creatures like selkies who exist to make the inherently coercive nature of heterosexual marriage explicit and to externalize male anxiety about how if your wife had actual autonomy she very well might disappear and you might never fucking hear from her again
which is a FASCINATING category of Woman-Creature imo
Some Leonora Carrington I saw today
Why the fuck are you 30+ on tumblr

So.... is Pluribus worth watching?
The periods of time between one obsession and the next one where I'm expected to live my life like it's normal??
"That someone desires me. And that I'm still alive. With so much more to give." — Avis Amberg, Hollywood - Season 1 Episode 1
Thank you @madamspellmans-met-tet for the amazing colouring ❤️
Someone recently said to me that Djokovic was at least "honest and open about not liking gay people", and that one must respect that he's a "traditional" man even if one doesn't agree with him in principle. Mind you, this person is not Serbian. The undertone of the conversation was, they just assumed being homophobic had something to do with Balkanic values and they "respected the culture". Now, my parents are Serbian. It angered me that someone would just assume that balkanic people were overall so primitive that homophobia is a natural part of their culture. And even if it were? Should it just be accepted? But I think this is an overall line of thought in western "leftist" culture, especially among people who grew up upper class. Like, putting the empty principle of a condescending acceptance (in order to look righteous or open-minded or whatever the fuck) before the actual universal greater good of preventing harm to others, of not accepting disgusting behaviour however it might come from.

it disturbs me that a significant number of people think that the issue with sexual violence, gendered violence, and misogyny is sexual desire rather than dehumanization, so they are relentlessly suspicious of others' (and their own) desires while simultaneously never at all interrogating others' (and their own) dehumanizing beliefs about other people, both within and outside of sexual contexts
#and at the root you'll find the misunderstanding of sexual violence as a violent extension of sex. #when in reality sexual violence is a sexual extension of violence. and the distinction is important.
