fanart of @queerlorenzo‘s amazing fic lost in emotion! i’ve read it like five times already, highly recommend/10!! captions are quotes from the fic
info on manta rays and jellyfish referenced from wikipedia because i’m a microbiologist and barely know anything about marine biology (also oh god my handwriting is atrocious)
queerlorenzo replied to your post “don’t do the rebloggy thing”
YA !!! i guess the idea is so that u'll have a more concrete "i did good things" thing at the end of the year, but ur totally right that you can Absolutely do the original idea & probably come out of it w a healthier relationship to both the object & whatever activism u take part in
yeah...and even that idea of a concrete “i did good things” goes back to the whole “if the thing you’re doing isn’t explicitly activist, it’s worthless and it’s not Good, which must mean it’s Bad” that triggers me so fucking much
it’s a good, concrete, worthwhile thing to...like, make a piece of art, or help someone with their homework, but those aren’t really things that are explicitly about smashing the patriarchy or whatever, so to some people they’re just...worthless.
yaaaaa like, i GET where OP is coming from, but. its.. not? The Most Helpful Thing to be like BOY HOWDY I DID SO MANY GREAT ACTIVIST THINGS ARENT I GREAT!! when for a lot of ppl “survived the day” is their Great Activist Thing
like??? i literally don’t understand how these things even remotely invalidate one another. if you’re an activist...you can just do the thing in the original image and have your good thing of the week be an activist thing???? also i feel like it’s. really fucking unhealthy, not to mention IMPOSSIBLE, to have no life and no good things outside activism, the way this is sort of implying you should.
it costs zero dollars to not make me, and people like me, feel like our lives aren’t worth living but lmao that’s just too fucking much apparently
