okay so i don’t think i’ve ever told the story about how one of my most important and biggest original writing projects started? this is the chronicles of dusk

first let me tell you briefly about the concept of the stories. this is basically kind of an epic fantasy deal, about the return of a very nasty sorcerer as a ghost, via a frightened child whose shadow he’s possessing, and about the struggle of an autistic shapeshifter, the nonbinary heir to the throne, her sorceress fianceé, the violently deposed princess of another world, and a handful of other allies to stop the sorcerer (and help the poor possessed guy). 

it gets a lot more complicated than that - there’s a lot of political intrigue as well, and necromancy, and struggling to defend the literal sources of life in both worlds, and a number of deities and lesser spirits who get involved. cailen (the shapeshifter) has a pet dragon. marlyn has to learn how to run a goddamn country while a lot of this is going on. it’s pretty involved and also pretty awesome.

in its original form, it started as the idea for a sequel to a video game, which i posted on a forum about the series when i was about twelve. 

how did it go from that to what it is now? well, you see, someone didn’t like my idea very much, and told my little twelve year old self - kind of rudely - that it sounded more like derivative fanfiction than like a good idea for an actual thing.

so naturally i decided, to prove that one guy wrong, i was going to make an original story out of all of it and publish it and make a million dollars.
